Dear Parents,
Our Year 3 students have had a week of exciting activities and engaging learning experiences. In English, we explored the beautiful picture book "How to Live Forever" by Colin Thompson. This week, we focused on crafting descriptive sentences, enriching our language with conjunctions and vivid adjectives. The aim was to paint pictures with words and evoke the imagination through detailed expressions. In PE, the focus was on netball-style passing games. Students honed their skills in passing, emphasizing movement and maintaining a ready position. It wasn't just about athleticism; it was about teamwork, strategy, and precision on the court. In RE, we learnt about how Muslims pray. We delved into the intricacies of the ritual, fostering respect and appreciation for diverse religious practices. In Maths, we explored the 8 times table. The focus was not only on mastering the multiplication but also on addressing common misconceptions. Through discussions and practical exercises, we are developing a comprehensive understanding of the 8 times table. Additionally, we revisited column addition and practiced placing numbers on an empty number line for a thorough review of key concepts. Our history lessons ventured further into the Shang Dynasty, focusing on the rulers who shaped the course of ancient China. We also explored the concept of chronology. In Science we learnt all about sound waves. To make it tangible, we created a human sound wave, allowing students to physically experience the principles of sound waves. It was a hands-on approach to understanding the science behind what we hear. In our dance sessions, we embraced interpretive movements inspired by earthquakes. The children creatively expressed the dynamics of seismic events through dance. Our outdoor learning took us to the world of plants, where students explored and identified different parts of a plant. It was a sensory experience, connecting classroom knowledge to the outdoor environment. A fantastic week, Willow class! Stay tuned for more updates next week as we continue to explore, discover, and grow together in Year 3. Have a lovely weekend! Year 3 Team Dear Parents,
This week, we tackled the 3 and 4 times tables with a rhythmic twist—catchy songs and hands-on practice. The aim was not just memorization but a solid understanding. Simultaneously, we explored number bonds up to 100 using bead strings. The tactile experience added a practical dimension to our numerical journey. Our English sessions delved into "How to Live Forever" by Colin Thompson. Beyond the narrative, we examined the intricate illustrations, encouraging analytical thinking and a deeper connection with literature. In PE, we explored volcanic movements through dance, emphasizing coordination and expression through structured motions. In history, we introduced the Shang Dynasty, examining artefacts and creating timelines for a hands-on exploration of ancient China. In RE, we revisited the Five Pillars of Islam, enhancing understanding through a creative exercise where students crafted "Five Pillars" for our school. Our music class embraced technology, experimenting with Chrome Music Lab. We are becoming confident adding rhythms to melodies. In summary, it was a fun week of purposeful learning, ensuring our Year 3 students grasp concepts with depth and understanding. Have a lovely weekend! Year 3 team Hi everyone.
We hope you had a fantastic start to the new year! This week has been a whirlwind of learning and discovery, and we can't wait to share all the exciting things we've been up to in class. In English this week, we took journey through the world of sentences. We dove into the basics of simple sentences, added a dash of complexity with compound sentences, and even ventured into the intricacies of complex sentences. It's like building with Lego blocks – each type of sentence is a unique piece that fits together to create amazing stories. In Maths we revisited some key skills around number bonds. We also explored the concepts of sharing and grouping – important skills that lay the foundation for more complex mathematical adventures ahead. In RE, our journey into the fascinating world of religions led us to Islam. We learned a little bit about the rich traditions, beliefs, and practices of Islam, gaining a deeper understanding of the diverse tapestry of cultures that make up our world. We compared a mosque to our local church. Respect and understanding are the cornerstones of our exploration into different faiths. In the world of music, we are continuing to master the glockenspiels, focusing on complex rhythms and melodies.
