Hi Everyone We have had an extremely busy week. The children have written their versions of a quest story which were very enjoyable. They are all using much more complex sentences. In maths, they have made a lot of progress with money and yesterday spent some time practising how to find change using plastic coins. In history, they spent time re-enacting the end of the Shang Dynasty. It is evident that there are many brave warriors in class! In PSHE, we have been thinking about how to stay safe online and beginning to learn about children's rights. There is no home learning for next week but please keep reading and any times table practising you can do would be amazing. The children have worked very hard and should be proud of all their achievements this half term personally and academically. Hope you have a great and safe (not too windy) half term. Miss Keen Hi Everyone
This week the children have been practising writing their own quest stories. We have been thinking about what magical items someone might need on a quest and talking about unlikely heroes. In maths this week, the children have been learning about money. We have been revising all the different coins and beginning to add up amounts in pence and pounds. It would be great if they could have a look at some coins and notes this weekend. We watched an assembly for our Dress to Express Day during Children's Mental Health Week. The children thought about who helps them grow and who can support you when you need it. We also thought about setting personal goals and made leaves celebrating positive things about ourselves. Yesterday in science, we had the last of our lessons on sound and explored uses for sound and how sound travels along string. Next week, we are writing our own stories based on a quest and we will be finishing our unit on money. We will also be finishing our unit on Ancient China. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week. Miss Keen and the Year 3 Team Hi Everyone This week seems to have flown by. In English, we have started a new unit by reading Arthur and the Golden Rope. We have been thinking about quest stories and what the elements of these are. The children enjoyed predicting whether Arthur was going to be a hero or not. In maths, we are finishing our unit on multiplication and division. We have looked at scaling problems and also started to use the column method to times two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers. In Year 3, the children begin to learn that when you are working with larger numbers, you need more formal methods. They are doing very well and I have had a real flurry of people learning their times tables and moving up which is great. In history, we have started to learn about a Bronze Age civilisation in Ancient China called the Shang Dynasty. We have started by thinking about how we learn about history from artefacts. In science, we looked at the acoustics in school and measured the decibels of different rooms to see which was loudest and which was quietest. On Tuesday, we completed relay races with OCRA . Next week, we are continuing our learning about the Shang Dynasty and completing our final lesson on sound. We will also be completing a short unit on money in maths. Hope you have a good Friday and a great weekend. Miss Keen and the Year 3 Team |
