We can't believe that is another term over! There have been many highlights this term and the children have a huge amount to be proud of. We hope they have a fantastic break.

This week, the children have written their writing ready to complete their double page spread for an information text on volcanoes. In geography, we have learnt about earthquakes and why they occur. In science, we investigated sinking and floating. The children also have a composting workshop that we couldn't fit into Science Week which they really enjoyed. We have almost finished our first fractions unit and will start to look at capacity and weight when we return. We will write letters in English on our return.
In Music this term the children have been developing their singing technique. The have been learning to keep in time and working on musical notation and rhythm. The unit finished with a group performance of a song with actions. The children have been learning to:
Move and sing as a team, following the lyrics on the screen.
Recognise minims, crotchets and quavers often by ear and reliably by sight.
Perform rhythms accurately from notation and layer them to create a composition.
Join in with the performances confidently, and reasonably in time and tune.
In DT, we have been making 3D shapes. We used the shapes to make castles!
In RE, we learnt all about Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr. We compared Eid and Christmas.

Good Afternoon,

We have had quite a few highlights this week and are feeling very proud of the children. They worked extremely hard in their assessments this week. Our visitor on Wednesday who was completing some PE training said she was blown away by the behaviour of the children and their independence.

In science, we investigated magnetic force and next week we will be investigating upthrust. We have started our fractions unit and will continue that next week. During assembly on Tuesday, they learnt about a project to support wild birds in our area. In Geography, we have been starting our research on volcanoes. We will also be writing about volcanoes in English. Our fraction unit is well under way in maths and the children have been able to compare and order fractions. In Life Skills, we have been looking at stereotypes in the world of work. In science, we investigated magnetic forces as part of our work on non-contact forces. In French this week, we carried on learning about breakfast food. We noticed that some words are similar to English. In DT, we have been making 3D shapes from nets. We struggled with the folding and gluing but made rapid progress! In maths, we have been reviewing fact families, missing number sentences and number bonds to 100.

Wow! It has been science week and what an amazing week it has been. The children had a fantastic time at Newquay Zoo learning all about how they help endangered species in the zoo. The children saw lots of different animals and enjoyed eating their lunch with the company of the scarlet macaws. This week, a vet came to talk to us all about her work and how to look after animals. The children enjoyed asking questions, practising putting on bandages and learning all about the machines vets use. We have also enjoyed writing a recount of our time at the zoo.
In French we have been talking about different types of breakfast foods. The children did a great job labelling all of the different foods in French. Today we were very lucky to have a visit from 2 police women. "We learnt about how they take finger prints and use special powder to see the finger prints. We also saw some pictures of what different prints look like. We also got to go and see a police car and we listened to the siren. It was SUPER loud!" In Art we spoke about the different features of castles. The children then designed their own castles.
What a fun-filled busy week! Next week, we will be completing some assessments, continuing learning about fractions and starting to learn about volcanoes.

Hi Everyone,

This week has totally flown by. We continued to use our understanding of forces from science to support our writing in English. The children have written a fantastic explanation text about air resistance and how engineers use it. We have finished measuring length and perimeter and are now moving on to learning all about fractions. In PE, we have continued focusing on our ball skills and putting our skills into practice in a game. In Life Skills, we have started to look at different stereotypes and different jobs. Our geography lesson focused on fold mountains. The children looked at photos from Ned who had climbed Yes Tor which is a mountain on Dartmoor.
This week, we have done lots of listening in French. We noticed that some words are familiar, or slightly similar to English. We remembered numbers up to 15.
In Art, we have been experimenting with homemade paints. We used mud, charcoal and beetroot mixed with water. We sketched animals using charcoal and then used the homemade paints to add colour. In Maths, we have been looking at capacity. We noticed that multiplication and division can help us when reading scales.
We are very much looking forward to all our exciting activities next week in science week.

Hi Everyone,

It has been a very interesting week. We have conducted investigations into air resistance using a piece of paper and a book. We are learning about forces in science and will write about what we have learnt in English. As well as looking at air resistance, we also began to explore how we could use Newton meters to measure forces. The children have been adding measures in maths. We measured our jumping and then added the jumps together. We have also looked at converting the measures in cm, mm and m. In geography, we have learnt about different geographical features. On Wednesday, we enjoyed World Book Day. It was great to see the children dressed up and hear about what they have been reading. The children then completed an online workshop with different authors.
This week in Art, we have been thinking about proportion when sketching animals. We have been learning about prehistoric cave paintings and the different materials used to create colours. In Maths, we have been learning how to subtract using a column. We have been trying to solve missing number problems such as 71 - ___ = 20. In French, we have been learning about mealtimes and times of the day.
