WILLOW CLASS

Weekly Class Blog

25/11/2021

Hi Everyone

It has been another very busy week. The children have written about where people live in geography and included what they learnt about North Tawton from their geography fieldwork (they took the photo below). They have been reading our new book The Paperbag Prince and learning all about how to use adverbials to tell a reader where and when something happens.

In maths, we have continued to learn how to add and takeaway using column method. We will practise this a lot this year as it will take some time to get fluent with it. Next week, we will start our unit on multiplication and division. I have been very impressed at how the children are doing with their times tables. Our aim is to learn the 2, 5, 10 3, 4 and 8 times tables by the end of the year.

In science, we have learnt about recycling and why we recycle. The children have had a good look at some objects that we recycle and can begin to give reasons why we do this.  We have continued to learn about tag ruby in PE and in PSHE we have started thinking about what respect means.

It was great to get so many completed home learning books today. Please make sure home learning is back in on Thursday and that the reading diaries are coming in every day. Thank you!

Hope you had a fab end to the week.
Thanks for all your support.
Miss Keen and all the year 3 staff.

Hi Everyone,

Wow! The children have produced some fantastic explanation texts this week. They have been explaining how to use different aspects of Scratch animation and I have been really proud of their choice of language and of their complex sentences. We have also finally started recording column method and using this to help us add and subtract bigger numbers. It will take a while to embed this new method but the children have worked extremely hard to learn it.

In PSHE this week, we finished looking at different families and we started learning about staying safe. We took the NSPCC internet quiz to see if we know how to stay safe online. We will return to it later in the term to see if our understanding has improved. In Science, we moved to the next step of making our recycled paper. We need it to dry out and we will observe what happens to it.  We have also been writing conclusions.

A massive well done to everyone for remembering their reading diaries. This is great and it has been really nice to be able to write in so many this week. I've seen lots that have been written in so thank you so much for that. Remember that tomorrow is Children in Need day and the children will be dressing up.

I hope you have a great rest of your week and a great weekend.

We have had a busy week this week - as ever! We walked through the town on Tuesday afternoon looking at lots of the local amenities and making a survey of them. The children were very well behaved. We are going to use our notes to produce a booklet about North Tawton in Geography. We have been thinking a lot about where settlements are and why we choose to live where we do.

In English, we have written a first draft of our explanation texts together. Next week, we will write our own explanation texts independently about making Scratch animation. The children have been working hard to use lots of interesting technical words and using words like when and because to explain what happens.  We have been learning about animation in computing.

The children have had reading diaries this week. Please record the reads in the diary and please can the children bring them to school everyday so we can record in them when we give them extra reading. We are looking forward to starting to learn about safe relationships in PSHE next week. We have also started using column method when adding and subtracting.  We will continue this next week.

Hope you have a good rest of the week and weekend.

Hi Everyone

The children have made a fantastic return after half term. We have started learning about Dudley, the techno-wizard dog, and looking at the use of technical language in a non-fiction book. We have continued to add and subtract using three-digit numbers and looking at different methods. In computing, we are learning all about animation. We will make some stop-frame animation and some animation on using a computer programme next week.  In science this week, we learnt how some raw materials can be changed to make synthetic materials. We learnt all about making glass. A big thank you for all the lovely and interesting glass objects.

On Tuesday next week, we are hoping to walk around the town and look at the local amenities for our field work in geography. We will complete a guide to North Tawton for our geography work.

Please keep reading at home and recording this in the back of the Home Learning books. Home learning will come out on Friday. Please return by Thursday next week.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend. A big thank you to the children for all their hard work.
