Hi Everyone We have had such a busy week already. The children have been using equipment to help them work out multiplications with larger numbers (such as 21 x 3) before they move on to using column method for this. They have finished making their posters for their laws in computing and PSHE I have included one of the posters with this post. It has been very exciting to see what they are concerned about and they have started to use their IT skills to make their posters really eye-catching. I think the world is in very safe hands! They have also finished their science writing about sound waves. Willow Class are now experts and can tell you all about how sound waves are made. Next week, we have OCRA coming in to run some relay races on Tuesday so please remember PE kit. I will send a reminder. We have also sent home the World Book Day competition so I hope the children enjoying doing this. Please feel free to submit this as their piece of grid homework. Thanks, as ever, for your support Miss Keen and the Year 3 Team Hi Everyone
I hope you are well. We have been continuing our science and our English by learning about sound and writing about sound. This week, we learnt about frequency and pitch and how they are related. The children investigated sounds and learnt that they can hear sounds with a higher frequency than I can. We are going to start some independent writing in English next week about our sounds learning. We will produce two pages in a similar way to the Marvin and Milo book. In maths, we are continuing our learning about times and divide. We have focused a lot on looking at real-world problems using times and divide. We have been helping the children to understand which is a times problem and which is a divide problem. You will see some sheets coming home for times table practice. If you can't log on to TTRS at home, please do let me know and I can send a sheet home. The aim is to have completed the 10, 2, 5, 3, 4 and 8 times tables by the end of this year and to be fluent with those facts. I think they are so helpful for life in school but also for well beyond school. Next week, we will start looking at multiplying a two-digit number by a one-digit number. In computing, we are looking at desktop publishing. We are going to use our learning about laws to make a poster for a new law that the children think is very important. I'm hoping that we can send them to our local MP when they are done. The spellings for this week are: television, telephone, telescope, submarine, subsoil and submerge. Hope you have a great week. Miss Keen Hi The children have had a great, first, full week back. I'm very impressed at their learning behaviours. They are getting extremely independent and taking risks with their learning. We have given out a lot of Dojos and they are really well deserved. We have continued looking at Marvin and Milo to see what we can learn about how it is written to help us with our writing. The children and I have been looking at the sentence structure and working out how to explain scientific ideas. In maths, we have carried on looking at multiplication. This year, the children will need to do learn the 2, 5, 10, 4, 8 and 3 times tables. We have started looking at these facts in class but please keep practising at home. In science, we have looked at how to make noises in different ways and how to make higher and lower sounds using musical instruments. We have been encouraging the children to write in their own reading diaries when they have read. Please could you initial when you get chance. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week. Loving the sunshine! Miss Keen
