Dear Parents, Another exciting and productive week has unfolded in our Year 3 classroom. Here's a glimpse into the highlights: In PE, our focus was on balance and coordination as we learned to link moves to form a short sequence on the mat. Working in pairs, students supported each other in mastering various balancing techniques, fostering teamwork and physical confidence. Mathematics brought us back to the fundamentals as we recapped subtracting multiples of 10 across 100, with a focus on exchanging. Additionally, students participated in a fractions assessment, demonstrating their understanding of fractional concepts and operations. In English, our literary journey continued with the captivating book "Escape from Pompeii." Students immersed themselves in descriptive writing, vividly capturing the scenes and characters from the story. Today, we shifted gears to explore the key features of a news reports. We spotted headlines, photos, facts and lots of conjunctions to extend sentences. We also joined in the spirit of giving by participating in Red Nose Day, with everyone wearing red to raise money for this worthy cause. There is a bake sale after school today in the hall as well! Thank you to all parents who contributed. Have a lovely weekend, Year 3 team Dear Parents,
Here's a glimpse into the exciting things that have been happening in class this week: In PE, we kicked off our session with a lively "Keep Fit" activity, featuring a spin-the-wheel game which landed on exercises like jumping jacks, burpees, kangaroo jumps, and spiderman lunges. It was a fun-filled way to promote physical activity and keep our bodies moving. In our English lesson, the class put their critical thinking skills to the test as they grappled with a dilemma faced by the main characters, Livia and Trenio, from "Escape to Pompeii." Using the concepts of "if" and "when," students offered advice on whether the characters should run to the harbour and hide or stay at home. It was a thought-provoking exercise that encouraged empathy and decision-making skills. Our musical journey continued with a focus on notes A and B, as well as reading complex rhythms. Students delved into the intricacies of musical notation, honing their skills in interpreting and playing complex rhythms. Additionally, we embraced harmony by singing "Frere Jacques" in parts, adding a melodic dimension to our musical repertoire. We also really enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day, with a great selection of different outfits and favourite books. In Maths we have recapped column addition and subtraction to 3 digits and then looked at number problems involving number bonds. Many children struggled with the 90 - ? = 45. However, they were mostly all able to do 90- 45 = ? This led to an interesting conversation. We talked about what was the same and what was different about each number sentence and how we can solve a missing number problem if we have two of the three parts. We often want to race on in Maths to bigger numbers and harder concepts, but mastery of a concept is essential. This kind of activity highlights whether we've learnt something by rote or if we have a deeper, more fluent understanding which we can then apply to problem solving. Have a lovely weekend! Best Wishes, Year 3 team Dear Parents,
Another exciting week has unfolded in our Year 3 classroom, filled with exploration, discovery, and active engagement. Here's a glimpse into the our week! In gymnastics. Students honed their skills in rolls, balances, and maintaining straight legs, fostering coordination and body control. In Geography, we explored the question of "What's Inside the Earth?" We made lift the flap posters to show the layers of the Earth. In DT, students learned about which months belong to each season and which fruits thrive in the UK during specific seasons. It was an interesting journey through the cyclical patterns of nature. In outdoor PE, students practiced moving and positioning on the court. It was a dynamic session that encouraged teamwork and strategic thinking. In English, our imaginations were ignited as we embarked on an adventure through the pages of "Escape from Pompeii" book. Using sands trays, students unearthed small pieces of artefacts, immersing themselves in the world of ancient history. Then they shared their ideas, explaining themselves clearly. In Maths, our focus was on length measurement and consolidating missing number questions. Through practical exercises and problem-solving tasks, students sharpened their mathematical skills and analytical thinking. Have a lovely weekend! Warm regards, Year 3 team |
