Hello, we are the Wildlife Ambassadors for North Tawton Community Primary School and Nursery. One of our primary focuses is to undertake projects which benefit the wildlife in our school environment.
Our first project this year was in collaboration with Sarah Augbaya from Devon Wildlife Trust. Together we carried out a site survey of our school grounds, looking at plants, habitats and areas to develop. Following the survey, we discussed as group how to develop our orchard and field areas.
Hedgehog Helpers
The next task that we undertook was rebuilding and repairing a hedgehog house that is part of our wildlife area. We should hopefully have some very happy hedgehogs in their cosy new habitat soon!
Keeping it clean!
The school environment is very important to us children and wildlife together, working as a team, we conducted a litter pick around the school site. We all looked great in our designer rubber gloves! When we had finished picking litter, we separated it into recyclable and non-recyclable and were pleased with our efforts in making the environment safer for wildlife and more aesthetically pleasing for us!
Mother's Day Flowers.
This session began with the Ambassadors looking for natural materials to create artwork from. We used sticks, leaves, fallen flowers and created a giant artwork in the sandpit. Later on in the day, we had a Mother's and Others Day sale and after selling many plants, the remainder were used to create a beautiful flower bed by the school gate.
Capturing Creatures (through a lens).
Our final project this year, was to use a night vision, motion sensitive camera and after two weeks of waiting...
We had two images that captured the foxy visitors we have in our wildlife area after dark.
Watch this space for our next project...
