I hope you had fun in the snow this morning and haven't got to wet in the rain this afternoon! We have had a lovely end of term busy getting up to lots of activities. On Monday we joined with year six to create Easter wreaths. The children worked really hard on these and by the end of the session they looked amazing! In the afternoon we finished our geography unit on biomes by looking at the savanna and how humans are negatively impacting biomes. We watched an incredibly powerful and moving video explaining the effects climate change is having our on planet. On Tuesday we finished publishing our newspaper articles about Anne Frank. The children were really engaged with this unit which was great to see! In the afternoon we finished our gymnastics unit too. We also had a go at re creating the move from one of our favourite just dance brain breaks 'waka waka'. See some pictures below! We had a great final day of term by writing and publishing Easter poems. We also had some free time choosing different Easter themed puzzles and maths games to have a go at. Lots of exciting things to look forward to in the summer term and fingers crossed the weather starts to improve. I hope you have a lovely Easter break! Happy Easter Miss Collins :) Happy Friday!
We have had a super busy week with our bike ability sessions! The instructors were very impressed with our children and their behaviour, which was great to hear. Meanwhile, in class some children were busy having a go at lots of different projects. They designed their own biomes (see pictures) and their own secret annexes. We have also continued with our English and maths lessons. In maths we have started a new unit all about area and perimeter. We have looked at how to find the perimeter of rectangles and the area of rectangles and compound shapes. We will finish this unit next week. In English we have been exploring the features of a newspaper article and begun writing our own newspaper reports about the discovery of Anne Frank and her family. We will aim to finish these and publish these by the end of next week. We have not covered much of the wider curriculum this week due to bike ability but we will be finishing our units off next week before the Easter Break! Have a lovely weekend :) Happy Friday! This term seems to be flying by!
We started the week by having a joint assembly with year 6 with the book trust. It was all about authors and their experiences becoming authors. They also gave lots of top tips to children who would one day love to become an author. We were even lucky enough to receive a book for each child from one of the authors from the virtual assembly. Today we our celebrating and fundraising for Red Nose Day by wearing something red for a donation and after school we are having a bake sale in the hall. Please come along for some delicious sweet treats! In English, we have started our new unit on Anne Frank. Children have been very engaged by this book and the topic. We have discovered this amazing online resource the secret annex and it provides you with a virtual tour of where Anne Frank lived and hid. Next week we will be having our bike ability sessions! It is going to be a very exciting opportunity for the children to learn how to ride a bike safely out on the roads. Look out on dojo for messages and updates . Have a lovely weekend! Happy Friday!
It has been another busy week with lots of learning taking place in Year 5! It was great to see lots of the children dressed up as their favourite book character. We had a hot dog, Harry Potter, Matilda and Alice in Wonderland! The children completed a world book day quiz testing their knowledge all about books, made some reading bookmarks and also completed an emoji book quiz. In our English lessons, we have been continuing to write, edit and publish our own fairy-tale sequels. the quality of the writing has been phenomenal, lots of budding authors in this class. Next week, we will start our new unit all about Anne Frank and her story. In maths we will have been learning about decimals and rounding them to nearest whole number and to the nearest one decimal place. We will finish this unit next week when we look at percentages! On Wednesday afternoon, the children created some great gymnastics sequences in partners practicing their balances and learning their own mini sequences to perform to the rest of the class. After our busy PE lesson, we came back and had a go at making our own parrot vector drawings on the computers. This proved to be quite a challenge! Next Friday will be Red Nose Day, look out for information on school dojo regarding this! TTRS is now back up and running again so children should be practicing their timetables at home please! Spellings and Maths homework due in on Monday please. Have a lovely weekend :) Happy Friday, what a wet week it has been! I hope you enjoy reading this week's blog.
This week in English we have begun to plan and write our own sequel to the 'The Sleeper and the Spindle'. We have been planning our own versions using different settings and characters from other famous fairy tales. Next week we will continue to write and edit our own sequel stories. In maths we have been continuing looking at decimals and learning equivalent fraction decimals. We have been looking at numbers with up to three decimal places. Children have been excellent at identifying and representing decimals in a place value chart. We were lucky enough to have three PE sessions this week, where in every lesson all children have been working really well. On Monday, we had a lesson with Mark Templeton from Real PE which focused on using our core strength, Tuesday we looked at balances and creating our own sequences in gymnastics. Today we had a lesson looking at skills used in netball and we even played some mini netball games practicing our skills of throwing and catching. In Geography this week we looked at the factors that affect a biome and how important they are for humans. We also researched and designed a picture to represent a biome of our choice. They look lovely out on display outside our classroom. I hope you manage to stay dry this weekend! It was lovely to see nearly all of you at parents meetings this week. Have a lovely weekend!
