Happy Friday everyone!
We have had a very busy week this week, assessments, play rehearsal, and a postponed Sports Day. Hopefully the 18th July will be a far sunnier affair and we will see some amazing competition and athleticism. The children worked hard on their end of term assessments and have done their best - i have been very pleased and proud of every one of them. This week, the rehearsals have really ramped up and we had a full rehearsal on Wednesday and today. A huge thank you to people who've provided costumes and learnt lines with children, it is looking amazing, I hope you've all bought your tickets for next week's performances. On Thursday, we had changeover morning, where the children met their teacher for next year. Hazel class were delighted to discover, that next year, they will have Miss Radbourne as their Year 6 teacher. We finished the week with some P.E. (Rounders) with Mrs Edwards, some really good fielding and striking skills on display. Next week, the children will be continuing to develop their rounders skills with Mrs Edwards. Tomorrow is the Summer Fair, there are lots of exciting stalls and activities on offer from 11.00 so please come and support FONTs, the money raised this year, will be used to revamp the playgrounds with new paint and markings, so playtimes next year will be more colourful and great fun! If you would like to help to support the school and our children by becoming a member of FONTs, please contact one of the FONTs members, we are always happy to see new members of the community supporting our children with financial assistance for resources, educational visits and experiences that help to enrich the curriculum. For more information, on how to get involved and what it entails, please see our FONTs page: Friends of North Tawton School (FONTS) (ntcps.co.uk) I hope to see many of you there tomorrow - if you could do a Sun dance, that would really help with the forecast! Next week, we will have a normal Monday, Tuesday sees us performing our dress rehearsal to the rest of the school, following this on Wednesday evening, we will perform in the evening from 5.30, so could children please be in school for 5.00 for costume and make-up. We finish the week, with our matinee performance on Thursday at 1.45 and on Friday, the school is closed due to industrial action. Have a great weekend - if you're at the Fair, I will see you there. Mr F Happy Friday!
Another hot week, with a few showers - good for the plants; British Summertime is definitely here! This week in Hazel Class, we have worked hard in Maths, continuing our unit, based on Shape and angles. We have also begun the task of planning our own class Quest story, which we will write next week - between rehearsals of course! All week, we have continued to rehearse our upcoming production - Cinderella Rockerfella. The children have copies of the script if they have a speaking part. it would be greatly appreciated if you could take time to help them rehearse their lines and performance, particularly as next week, they won't be allowed to use it on stage. (Costume ideas have been attached as well). Children are welcome to bring costume pieces in, in a named carrier bag from next week, so we can really ramp up rehearsals. On Thursday, the children enjoyed an exciting session with OCRA, competing in the Quad Kids events, which included: a 75m sprint, a 600m run, a vortex throw and a standing long jump. In the afternoon rehearsals for the play took precedence and the performance levels went up another notch! This morning, we continued our DT project on Bridges, we used our Maths and Science skills to try to complete the construction of our spaghetti truss bridges. We finished the week with some P.E. (Rounders) with Mrs Edwards, some really good fielding and striking skills on display. Next week, the children will be continuing to develop their rounders skills with Mrs Edwards. In terms of home learning, can I remind everybody that the expectation is that children read for at least 10 minutes at home everyday, this can be magazines, newspapers, manuals, cookery books, as well as their reading books, as it is all reading. I would also like children to spend time working on their times tables, which are vital in so many areas of the Maths curriculum, I am Remember the Wider Curriculum home learning is for the whole term, I am expecting great things in by Thursday 20th July at the latest (so if you haven't started, now's a great time to think about it.). Next week, the children will continue with their new topics, including Life Cycles, Energy and Sustainability and Healthy Lifestyles in Life Skills (don't forget, next week's sessions are our RSE sessions, please see my powerpoint on Dojo for details). Rehearsals for Cinderella Rockerfella will take place every day, tickets for this are available in the playground after school at a very reasonable £2.00 a ticket, they are selling like hot cakes, Wednesday is sold out, but there are still plenty left for Thursday's performances, if you haven't already, come and buy yours - before it's too late! Have a great weekend, see you on Monday. Mr F Happy Friday!
It has been a glorious week weather wise, a little bit of rain is forecast for the next few days but the Sun will be back! This week in Hazel Class, we have worked hard in Maths, continuing our unit, based on Shape and angles. We worked on identifying the effects of alcohol and smoking in Life Skills, Life cycles in Science and Energy and Sustainability in Geography. All week, we have continued to rehearse our upcoming production - Cinderella Rockerfella. . The children have copies of the script if they have a speaking part. it would be greatly appreciated if you could take time to help them rehearse their lines and performance. (Costume ideas have been attached as well). Children are welcome to bring costume pieces in, in a named carrier bag from next week, so we can really ramp up rehearsals. On Tuesday, we played a great game of rounders in the afternoon, instead of our Mini Police session. Unfortunately PC Matt Young, who leads the sessions is unwell and may be off for a few weeks. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him soon. On Thursday, the children enjoyed another morning with Miss Collins. They tackled their learning areas of Life Cycles in Science, (this week, they began to grow their own potato) and an Arithmetic test in Maths. In the afternoon rehearsals for the play took precedence and the performance levels went up a notch! This morning, we continued our DT project on Bridges, we used our Maths and Science skills to try to create a beam bridge - from SPAGHETTI! I would like to see children's Reading records filled in every day and will be checking them every morning from Monday. I would also like children to spend time working on their times tables, which are vital in so many areas of the Maths curriculum, I am asking for 25 minutes spent on Times Tables Rock Stars every week. This could be 5 minutes a day, a block of 25 minutes, or 10 minutes and fifteen minutes, whichever of these options works best at home. Remember the Wider Curriculum home learning is for the whole term, I am expecting great things in by Thursday 20th July at the latest (so if you haven't started, now's a great time to think about it.). On Tuesday, after a hard morning's rehearsal, we had our first Mini Police session with PC Matt Young. He talked to children about the role of the police, answered a lot of questions and then thought about what the children would like to concentrate on over the next few weeks. They also will be donning their Mini Police uniforms next week. On Thursday, the children enjoyed another morning with Miss Collins. They tackled their learning areas of Life Cycles in Science and an Arithmetic test in Maths. In the afternoon rehearsals for the play took precedence and the performance levels went up a notch! We will I'm afraid have to have a slight interruption in our Mini Police program, as PC Matt Young who delivers the program is ill at the moment.
