Happy Friday everyone, or should I say Happy Holidays!
This is our week in short... This week in Hazel, we have been working hard on our Food and Farming mini project. The children had a budget of £3,000,000 to set up their own farm and it wasn't as easy as some of them thought, although we now have a bonifide farmer and the UK's largest chicken farmer after 5 years of projected income! On Wednesday, we had a very musical day. It started in the morning, with a drumming workshop in the hall with Alan Kerr. This was brilliant and the children's sense of rhythm was superb - see the video on Dojo if you haven't already, it's really worth a watch. We have also been working hard on our song for Mrs Mathews, who 'sort of' left us on Thursday. She had a wonderful send off and the children sang our version of Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up brilliantly. On Thursday, we had a a day of games, film and removals! We started to clear the classroom ready for the reshuffle that the classes will be having in September. I have really enjoyed teaching Hazel Class this year, a small yet perfectly formed group of children with a sense of purpose and fun, I know they will go on to do well in year 6. I hope that you all have a great holiday, the weather looks goodish, so get out and about but make sure that you have your sun cream on! If you are attending the OCRA 13 Fun Run on Sunday, I will see you there. Have a great holiday Mr F Good afternoon everybody - Happy Friday!
This is our week in short... This week in Hazel, we have been working hard on our new English text, Incredible Edibles, which is based on instructional writing and recipes. We wrote our own Gastrotrumps and Microfacts, based on weird and wonderful food from around the world. In Maths, we have been working on position, direction and coordinates. In RSE, we continued to learn about puberty, focusing on emotions and mood swings. This week we worked as agony aunts to advise people experiencing problems during puberty For Science, we have made links to our RSE and looked at the Human life cycle, from prenatal to old age. We also enjoyed a multi-skills session today with Mr Stronge. Today, we also enjoyed our nugget treat, with a treasure hunt and a water fight in the orchard, it might take me until Monday to dry out! There is also a digital copy of this half term's Wider Curriculum Home Learning on Dojo, I am looking forward to seeing everybody's that hasn't come in yet. Can I remind everybody that the expectation is that children read for at least 10 minutes at home everyday, this can be magazines, newspapers, manuals, cookery books, as well as their reading books, as it is all reading. Next week, the children will be working on Food and Farming on Monday and Tuesday, they have a very exciting Drumming Workshop on Wednesday and Thursday is our last day. I hope that you all have a great weekend, the weather looks glorious, so get out and about but make sure that you have your sun cream on! See you on Monday Mr F Good afternoon everybody - Happy Friday!
This is our week in short... This week in Hazel, we have been working hard on our new English text, Incredible Edibles, which is based on instructional writing and recipes. We thought about verbal instructions and the need for images and clarity in our instructions to make them clear. We drew a picture and then had to give our partner verbal instructions on how to draw it - see photos. In Maths, we have come to the conclusion of our unit on converting measurements and the class did well in their assessment today. In RSE, we continued to learn about puberty and how it affects our body. This week we focused on personal hygiene. For Science, we have made links to our RSE and looked at the Human life cycle, from prenatal to old age. We also enjoyed a multi-skills session today with Mr Stronge. New spellings have been sent out for this half term, we will do the third column's test on Monday. I have put a digital copy on Class Dojo. There is also a digital copy of this half term's Wider Curriculum Home Learning on Dojo, I sent a paper copy home this week as well. Can I remind everybody that the expectation is that children read for at least 10 minutes at home everyday, this can be magazines, newspapers, manuals, cookery books, as well as their reading books, as it is all reading. Next week, the children will be working on Position and Direction in Maths, completing their RSE, working on Incredible Edibles in English, Lifecycles in Science, Humanism in RE and making their Pasta sauce in DT on Wednesday, each child will have an ingredient to bring in, I will message it to you on Dojo and give you a reminder slip on Monday. I hope that you all have a great weekend, the weather looks a bit iffy, but do try to get out and about, except for when the football is on, I expect you all to be roaring England on! See you on Monday Mr F Good afternoon everybody - Happy Friday!
We've reached the end of another week - here is a little flavour of what we have been up to this week. This week in Hazel, we have been working hard on our assessments, ready to set targets for next year. I have been really impressed by the way in which the children have applied themselves to these in a difficult year and the outcomes have been really promising. In RSE, we continued to learn about puberty and how it affects our body. We have been producing our own guide to puberty. For History, the children have been researaching and finding out about various aspects of Ancient Mayan life and culture and have produced some fantastic information pages (see photos) We also have had a Mayan Challenge Day, where the children upcycled old clothes and junk into Mayan costume and masks. We also enjoyed a multi-skills session with Mr Stronge. New spellings have been sent out for this half term, we will do the second column's test on Monday. Next week, the children will be working on decimal numbers in Maths, completing their RSE, working on a new text in English - to be revealed next week, working on Lifecycles in Science, Humanism in RE and completing their Mayan work. I hope that you all have a great weekend, the weather looks a bit iffy, but do try to get out and about. See you on Monday Mr F |
