Happy Friday! I hope enjoy reading this weeks blog.
We have had a very busy week with tests this week. The children have been busy sitting one reading paper and three maths papers. I have been very impressed with the children's attitudes towards the tests this week practicing lots of perseverance and resilience as it has been tricky. However everyone has tried their best with all four tests, which is all I can ask for. On Monday, we started our new geography unit on biomes and we spent time investigating all the different types of biomes across the world. Next week we will be researching about our chosen biomes and creating pictures to represent different biomes. On Tuesday, we started a new computing unit looking at creating vector drawings. Over the weekend you could ask your child what a vector drawing is! We used google drawings to create our own vector drawings, children worked well in pairs to create their own. We had lots of houses and even a sloth! We have begun our new maths unit on decimals and percentages this week and will be continuing to learn more about this next week! We have also continued with the 'Sleeper and the Spindle' and next week we hope to start to begin to plan and write our own sequel to this alternative fairy tale. I look forward to seeing most of you next week at parent's evenings on Monday and Wednesday. I hope you all have a lovely weekend and manage to stay dry! Don't forget spellings and maths homework on Monday. Happy half term! It is crazy to think that this half term marks being half way through this academic year already! It certainly has flown by.
This week in English, we have continued to look at our text ' The Sleeper and the Spindle'. We have been learning lots of new adjectives to describe the characters. Ask your child what hirsute means, I had to look that one up. We have also had a focus on practicing punctuating direct speech correctly, remembering the different rules with the punctuation. In maths we have began our unit on multiplying fractions and finding the fraction of an amount. The children have been working really well with this unit and are getting to the dive deeper questions in many lessons, which is excellent. We will continue with this after half term before moving onto decimals and percentages. In science the children worked hard to make electromagnets! Mrs Ware was very impressed! In history we have finished our unit on Medieval Monarchs by looking at Elizabeth I. We certainly have flown through many years in only 5 lessons. PE this week has focused on badminton practicing our skills and also playing in game scenarios which the children have really enjoyed. This afternoon, we have had our first nugget treat. The children ha worked well as a class to get all the nuggets for the jar. They chose to watch Sing 2 and enjoyed some sweet treats too. Look out for parents evening booking sheets after half term. Please can I remind children that will be having a spelling test on the first Monday back and the multiplication/division homework will also be due. Lots of exciting things to look forward to after half term including bike ability! Have a lovely half term break and look forward to seeing you all on Monday 19th. I hope you enjoy this weeks blog.
We have had a very busy week in Hazel class. In English we have been busy publishing our biographies about Phillippe Petit. Look out for our writing display after half term. We have moved on to looking at a new text of 'The Spindle and the Sleeper' which is based on a mix of traditional fairy tales with a twist! After half term we will hopefully be writing our own fairy tales with a twist. We have been focusing on features of traditional fairy tales and looking at homophones within the text. In maths we have finished our multiplication and division unit focusing on using short multiplication and division methods. It would be great if children could continue practice these methods at home to further secure their knowledge and understanding. Next week we will be looking at multiplying and dividing fractions! In our wider curriculum we have been looking at Henry VIII and learning all about him and all his wives! The children really enjoyed learning about him and especially enjoyed the Horrible Histories song all about him! We have had a very enjoyable and fun art lesson this afternoon changing our portraits to create more funny and interesting ones! Please remind children of the home learning expectation in Year 5. Children need to be reading at home at least 5 times a week and reading records need to be in school every day. Children also need to be practicing their times tables and spellings daily at home too. Have a lovely weekend! |
