Happy Friday!
A huge thank you to all those parents who attended our Parents Sharing Assembly today. It was great to share our learning from this term with you in person. This week in Hazel Class, we have worked hard in Maths, completing our unit on Multiplication and Division and our extended writing piece in English. We continued our Science topic of Electrical Circuits, thinking about which materials are good electrical conductors and insulators. On Tuesday, we started a challenge, in preparation for our Eden Project visit on Thursday. We had to design a third biome and persuade the directors of the Eden Project, that our choice of biome was right for their next venture. There were some super designs. Yesterday, we visited the Eden Project and learnt all about our climate culture and how we could reduce our carbon footprint. The children had a great time but did find the Rainforest biome a little warm! We finished the week with some P.E. in the classroom as the weather has been awful today - Joe Wicks did assist in parts! In terms of home learning, can I remind everybody that the expectation is that children read for at least 10 minutes at home everyday, this can be magazines, newspapers, manuals, cookery books, as well as their reading books, as it is all reading. I would also like children to spend time working on their times tables, which are vital in so many areas of the Maths curriculum. After Easter, the children will start on some new topics, including evolution, The Middle East and careers in Life Skills. Have a great Easter break, get out and have fun together, hopefully it will stop raining soon! See you in two weeks. Mr F Happy Friday!
A huge thank you to all those parents that I saw this week at Parents Evenings on Wednesday and Thursday. It was great to talk to you about your children, the progress that they have made this year and their next steps. This week in Hazel Class, we have worked hard on assessments in Maths, reading and our extended writing piece in English. We continued our Science topic of Electrical Circuits, thinking about what components in a circuit look like as symbols in a circuit diagram is and what is included in one. On Monday, we had a great time on the field in the afternoon, leading our teams around in our Fun Fitness afternoon. It was superb - thank you Mrs Ahmad and the Year 6s for leading this. Yesterday, we had our final session in the pool. It was great to see the progress that the children had made with their swimming over this term - I am very proud of all of you Hazel Class, great job! We finished the week with some Tag Rugby and got a little wet at the end of the session! We also explored different filming techniques in Computing. A new set of Wider Curriculum challenges is available on this page and on Dojo, I would love to see a piece from each child by next Thursday, I have had some good pieces so far, including an electric video (excuse the pun) and some super French flashcards. Next week, the children will be working on an exciting task in Geography, in preparation for our trip to the Eden Project. We will continue our work on Electrical circuits in Science and will finish our work on Multiplication and Division in Maths. Don't forget, next week is our trip to the Eden Project in St Austell, Cornwall. Therefore, on Thursday, the children will need to be in school by 8.30 so that we are prepared and ready to go. The children are very excited about it and I am really looking forward to it - look out for photos next week. Have a great weekend, get out and have fun together. See you on Monday Mr F Happy Friday!

This week in Hazel Class, we have worked hard on multiplying numbers in Maths. We started our new Science topic of Electrical Circuits, thinking about what static electricity is. In our English unit on figurative language, we have written some descriptions of characters. The children have used metaphor, simile and personification, as well as some ambitious vocabulary and their new best friend - a thesaurus, to create character and setting descriptions, which we will weave into a story next week. On Monday and today, we have been working on creating board games based on Medieval Monarchs The children have had some very creative ideas and have now completed work on these, so no more cardboard please, my cupboard can't take any more!
