Happy Friday everyone!
What another busy wet week we have had. Lots of exciting things have been happening in Hazel this week. In English we have finished reading our text The Island and have been producing some lovely work including diary entries, formal letters and news reports. The children have worked hard producing some lovely writing. Next week we will begin planning and writing our own sequel. In maths we have continued looking at multiplication and division. We have looked at factors and prime numbers and have had a class discussion as to whether 1 is a prime number or not. In geography we were looking at the similarities and differences between different informal settlements across the world. We have also had another fab mini police session with everyone being super engaged and participating well. Today we have had a busy DT day making our pop up Christmas cards ready for the Christmas fair next week! We have had our dancing shoes on too for our just dance party with pudsey! Have a lovely dry weekend See you next week Happy Friday!
This week we have had another busy week, with lots of new curriculum topics beginning. In English on Monday we finished and published our reports all about the Benin Kingdom. We have since started our new unit based on the book The Island by Armin Greder, it is very unusual book with some unusual illustrations. I look forward to the next couple of weeks exploring this book further. In maths we have begun our new unit on multiplication and division. Yesterday and today we have spent time looking at multiples and finding common multiples of numbers. In our geography we looked at why informal settlements develop. We discussed the reasons for why we think they develop and looked at why they often develop on the edge of big cities around the world. In science this week the children had fun with different experiments with ice cubes and melting chocolate! In our saints PE lesson the children have been practicing their netball skills with lots of different drills to practice throwing and catching. They have also played lots of mini tournament games. Once again the children were amazing during our mini police session and swimming , setting an excellent example for our school! Hope you have a lovely weekend! Stay dry! Happy Friday!
It has been a bit of a funny week this week with storm day yesterday. I hope you all managed to stay safe in the warm and dry. We have had a busy week back after half term. In our English lessons this week we have began writing our non-chronological reports all about the Benin Kingdom. We aim to finish these by the middle of next week so we can then begin our new unit... In maths this week we have finished our addition and subtraction unit by completing our end of unit assessment today. We will be moving onto multiplication and division next week. We have also started our geography unit on informal settlements. We use our map skills using an atlas to help us find the largest informal settlements around the world. On Tuesday we had a very exciting afternoon, we had our first session of mini police. The children were very engaged and asked lots of interesting questions. As a class they decided that our focus for the rest of our session will be about speeding motorists in our town. In a few weeks we will be lucky enough to go into town with a speed gun to see if we can catch anyone going over the speed limit! Today we have started our new DT project which we will be selling at the Christmas fair! We will be making Christmas pop up cards so look out for these at the fair in a few weeks time! I hope you have a lovely weekend and stay dry! |
