Happy Friday!
This week in Hazel Class, we have worked hard on multiplying numbers in Maths. We continued our Science topic of Electrical Circuits, thinking about what an electrical circuit is and what is included in one. In our English unit on figurative language, we have been planning our stories, which we will write next week. On Monday , in Geography, we explored what a Biome is and what the six major biomes of the Earth are. Don't forget, the payment for our upcoming trip to the Eden project is live on School Gateway now. We finished the week, with a visit from Rowenna from Reading University, who are conducting a research project into how children learn modern foreign languages. The children undertook a variety of activities based on grammar, phonics reading and writing French, with a French song and active break in the middle. In terms of home learning, can I remind everybody that the expectation is that children read for at least 10 minutes at home everyday, this can be magazines, newspapers, manuals, cookery books, as well as their reading books, as it is all reading. I would also like children to spend time working on their times tables, which are vital in so many areas of the Maths curriculum. Today the children will bring home their spellings for next half term. Thank you for the pieces of Wider Curriculum Home Learning that I received. A new set of challenges was sent out this week and is available on this page and on Dojo. Next week, the children will be continuing their work on Multiplication and Division in Maths, writing their invent pieces in our unit based on the use of figurative language in English, the rest of the week, will be Science based, as it is Science week, therefore, there will be visitors and workshops for the children to take part in. Don't forget, that next week, Hazel class will only be in school on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, due to industrial action - please see Miss Penny's letter for further details. Parents Evenings In the week commencing 20th March, I will be holding Parents meetings, for you to review your child's/children's progress. From Monday, I will have a sign-up sheet outside my room for you to book an appointment with me. Appointments will start at 3:40pm each day and will run to 6.30pm on Wednesday 22nd March and 6.00pm on Thursday 23rd March. They are scheduled for 10 minutes per child. If you can't get to school to book an appointment, please let me know via dojo/the office/or your child and we can book your appointment. If you have multiple children on one night, please leave a gap between appointments so that we can all keep to time as much as possible. If you can't come into school on one of those nights due to childcare or work commitments, I can offer you a telephone call instead. Please let me know as I would like to see as many of you as possible to discuss your child's/children’s progress and the year ahead. Sign-up sheets are outside the classroom now, please sign up. Have a restful weekend, wrap up warm and get out and about. See you on Monday Mr F Comments are closed.
