Good afternoon all - Happy Friday.
It's been a really busy week, full of learning and some really great examples of sporting acumen! This week, we have worked hard on different areas of the curriculum, as it has been the Week of Hope. We started the week on Monday with some French games and activities and then moved on to create our part of a fantastic whole school art display based on feathers. We used one of the artists that we have covered this year as inspiration, painting our feathers in a Van Gogh style. See photo. On Tuesday, we worked on our Science topic of Life Cycles and the children worked together in small groups to research and produce a display, based on the life cycles of different animals. In the afternoon, we practised our Sports Day events to get our techniques polished ready for Thursday's Sports Day. On Wednesday, the sports continued and we visited Hatherleigh Cricket Club and played against other schools from the Dartmoor MAT. The class were a credit to the school and played superbly, we really do have some talented cricketers. They finished second and third overall as we had two teams, their teamwork and support for each other was excellent - well done year 5. On Thursday, it was Sports Day and there were some fantastic performances on show, some accomplished throwers and runners amongst Hazel class and lots of points scored for their teams. The results are out on Monday... Finally, today, we finished with some creative writing, the children have written some superb poems based on the poem The Magic Box by Kit Wright, but we incorporated the theme of togetherness, to write the Trunk of Togetherness. (See photos) Then there was the Music Concert, which was superb. If you missed it, there are a couple of videos of the classes performances on Dojo. Please look out for this half term's home learning on Class Dojo, as well as this half term's spellings. The Home Learning Diary that was sent home, has been used by many of you already, with some really good pieces of work evident. Thank you for sending those in, please continue them for the next two weeks, as they are a great record of the learning that the children have undertaken this year. Next week, we will have a normal week in comparison to the one that has just passed us by. The children are having their Transition morning on Thursday and will spend most of the morning with their teacher for next year. Then in the afternoon on Thursday (instead of Tuesday), they will have their Forest School with Miss Prince, so please make sure that they have their old clothes and shoes with them then. Finally, the Summer Fair is tomorrow. If you are able to offer your time during this event, any help is greatly appreciated, whether it be running a stall or helping to set up or tidy away, or just coming along and enjoying it and raising money for your children's school. The Fair starts at 11 and finishes at 2pm, it would be great to see as many of you there as possible. Have a great weekend, enjoying family time. See you on Monday, if not at the fair tomorrow.
