Happy Friday!
It has been great to see all the children back, fresh and ready for the Summer Term, let's hope we see a bit more of the Sun! This week in Hazel Class, we have worked hard in Maths, starting a new unit, based on Decimals and Percentages, we also started our new unit in English, based on the book 'Are Humans Damaging the Atmosphere?' Which ties in with our Life Skills work this year and our new Geography for next half term on Energy and Sustainability. On Thursday, the children enjoyed their first day with Miss Collins. They tackled their new areas of Evolution in Science and The Middle East in History - starting with what and where the Middle East is. We finished the week with some P.E. (Athletics) with Mrs Edwards and for some people, that wasn't all, they went on to represent the school as part of our Cross Country team, running this afternoon at Chagford - over a particularly gruelling course! In terms of home learning, can I remind everybody that the expectation is that children read for at least 10 minutes at home everyday, this can be magazines, newspapers, manuals, cookery books, as well as their reading books, as it is all reading. I would like to see children's Reading records filled in every day and will be checking them every morning from Monday. I would also like children to spend time working on their times tables, which are vital in so many areas of the Maths curriculum, I am asking for 25 minutes spent on Times Tables Rock Stars every week. This could be 5 minutes a day, a block of 25 minutes, or 10 minutes and fifteen minutes, whichever of these options works best at home. Next week, the children will continue with their new topics, including Evolution, The Middle East and careers in Life Skills. Have a great weekend, enjoy the Sun and get out and about.
