Friday 23rd April

The children have come back to school after the Easter break full of enthusiasm towards learning which has been lovely to see.
We have started a new topic in science about plants and the children have all planted a bean thinking about what it will need to grow well. Running along side this we have enjoyed the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and are hoping our beans might grow as well as Jack's did (although we don't want there to be a giant waiting for us at the top!)
In art the children went out in to the school grounds and made some observational drawings of plants they particularly liked looking closely at the plants to try to add detail to their sketches.
English this week has been all about a dog called Barker. The children have learned that although he was a bit naughty at the beginning of the story, in the end he helped his family. The children have learned about what a noun is and been discussing how to write sentences to include detail about the noun.
Maths this week has been about consolidating knowledge and understanding of addition and subtraction and how using maths equipment might help the children make an image of what is happening and how that might help them in their calculations. I have really been pleased to see the progress that has been made in how to set out these calculations in a way that shows they have understood how to calculate and write an appropriate number sentence from this calculation. 
We have begun to learn a song about Jack's adventure and hope to record the song for you to watch at a later date.
Next week in maths we will be learning about multiplication and learning more about plants making sure that the bean is looked after and checking to see if there has been any changes.
