Dear Parents and Carers,
Literacy The children are really coming along beautifully in their Literacy and I must say a big thank you to you all for reading with your child at home each day. This makes an enormous difference, in my experience, in all areas of the curriculum. Please find this week's spellings by group attached. Maths The children will continue their work on place value. This week we will be comparing numbers by counting and also using symbols (< , = and >). Art and Design Last week the children really enjoyed doing their artwork and were engrossed in their activities. I hope you had the chance to take a peek at the pictures. Here are some problems from this block of learning you might like to try with your child, if you would like. file:///C:/Users/D.Hill/Desktop/2021-2022/Maths/Autumn%201/week%203/Yr-1-Autumn-Block-1-Place-Value-within-10.pdf Science In Science we are using different forms of enquiry to explore different types of materials and their properties. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zf7jmp3 https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z7qd7ty Humanities This week I will hope to start work on our Humanities topic for this term - Dinosaurs! Have a great week! Mrs Budiman 20th September 2021
The children had a great week of learning and have settled well into their RWI groups for Literacy and Maths too. We covered a number of topics in PSHE including understanding kind and unkind behaviours. The children have really enjoyed their PE sessions on Monday and Friday with myself and the Saints coaches. Last week our star of the week was Blake who has shown great resilience in the first couple of weeks of school. The week coming! Literacy The children will continue in their groups and new books will be sent out accordingly depending on the group your child is in. In case of any confusion I just wanted to clarify that children read with an adult everyday in these groups but this is not recorded in the reading diaries as it would be too laborious to do so. If we get the chance we will try to do additional reading but I have an expectation that children will read each day with their parent for 5 minutes minimum. I was very impressed with the spellings the children did on Friday - new spellings out today! Maths This week in Maths we will be exploring representing number in different ways, counting forwards and backwards to 50 and one more and one less than a given number to 50. Please find a link to a workbook for this unit if you wish to pursue this at home. https://wrm-13b48.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Y1-HL-Autumn-Block-1-Place-value-within-10-2020.pdf Wider Curriculum Art and Design This week we will be looking at using composition styles, collage, paint and line for the children to create their own abstract pieces. we are starting this looking at the work of Beatriz Milhazes as well as other artist such as Claude Debussy and David Hockney. Have a great week! Mrs Budiman and Mrs Day |
