Dear Parents and Carers,
Our Star Learner this week is Daisy who amazed us with her number bond knowledge. Well done Daisy it's great to see you feeling so proud of yourself! Literacy Once again the children are working hard in Literacy and I have been really impressed with some of the writing I am seeing. The children are increasingly aware of the sizing of their letters and are working hard to improve in all aspects. Please continue to read daily with your child. Maths We have been working hard on subtraction this week and the use of number bonds to help us with this. The children have worked hard on these ideas and persevered with some difficult ideas - so a very well done to you all! Wider Curriculum This week we made our own crowns in History and explored the timeline of Henry VIII many marriages. The children were also part of a talk with some medical professionals this week in which they found out something about careers in the medical profession. Forest School We will be doing Forest School on Monday so don't forget your kit. The children will not need their PE kit on Monday but will still need it on Friday. Have a great week! Kind regards, Mrs Budiman, Mrs Day and Mrs Bewes Dear Parents and Carers,
The week has absolutely flown by and our Star Learner this week is Evander! Evander always has lots of ideas to share and a creative mind. He has produced some excellent written work this week - so very well done Evander! Literacy I have been impressed with the learning going on in my own phonics group as we move through some challenging writing activities. The children are developing well and continue to impress me with their ability to improve. Maths We have got onto some difficult Maths this week as we attempted to use our knowledge of number bonds to add and subtract bridging ten. No easy task and worth practising if you have time! https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning?year=year-1 https://assets.whiterosemaths.com/fixed/wrm/2020/07/Y1-HL-Spring-Block-1-Addition-and-subtraction-within-20-2020.pdf Wider Curriculum In Science the children have worked on the seasons and the type of weather we expect to see in these seasons. We are planning an exciting week of History in which we will explore how things are different in comparison to the past. We will be making crowns, jousting (safely!) and creating our own timelines of events. Have a great weekend! Mrs Budiman, Mrs Day and Mrs Bewes. Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you enjoyed our weather report ably given by Henry and Lucy. Our Star Learner last week was Daisy who has been working really hard in her Literacy producing some lovely written work. Literacy Keep up the 5 minutes reading daily with your child and please practise spellings. You will find these in the spelling books. Maths The children are working hard on their maths and we are now working particularly hard on number bonds to both 10 and 20. We are using this knowledge to aid our addition. Wider Curriculum As you will have seen we have got off to a great start in our Science observing the weather outside and looking at some of the instrument we use to measure weather. Please try to review the order of the seasons with your and even the months of the year these are important concepts in year 1. Homework You should have received the homework for this term - this is in the homework books provided. Forest School I'm afraid Forest School could not happen on Monday because of staff shortages due to illness. I hope we can catch up on another day and I will keep you posted as to when we might be able to manage it. Have a great week! Mrs Budiman, Mrs Day, Mrs Bewes Dear Parents and Carers,

This half term we will be joined by our trainee Teacher Mrs Bewes who will be in class from Tuesday until Thursday each week. Last week we consolidated our learning from the previous term and this week we will start a new unit, namely, Addition and Subtraction within 20 - there are very useful resources on the White Rose website and here is a link for the supporting maths booklet: https://assets.whiterosemaths.com/fixed/wrm/2020/07/Y1-HL-Spring-Block-1-Addition-and-subtraction-within-20-2020.pdf Children have moved to their new RWI groups. Please remember to read each night, your child's teacher in phonics should provide spellings each week on a Monday to be tested on a Friday. Wider Curriculum Computing The children will be using our class chromebooks to get more familiar with the keyboard and practise writing digitally for themselves.
