Dear Parents and Carers,
Well done to Vittoria who was our Star Learner last week - she has worked really hard since she joined us in Year 1 and is always full of smiles. Forest School This Monday is Forest School so please bring your kit ready for some outdoor learning. No need for PE kit today. Assessment Week This week is assessment week in school and therefore our normal routines will be disrupted. We will not have spellings this week. Maths In Maths we will continue our work on weight and volume. Please follow this link for further work: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning?year=year-1 Wider Curriculum Science This week we will be continuing our unit of work on 'Sound' and will be talking about how sound travels and also how some people may have hearing problems. Humanities We will continue our work on London, looking at its geographical location and historical context. Like Dear Parents and Carers,
The children had a great first week back after the holidays and continue to impress me with their ability to transition back to school life so seamlessly. Literacy As we move closer to the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check I would once again encourage you to read with your child everyday and record this in their reading records. It is important for us to understand what children are doing at home and in school. One of the stumbling blocks many of the children are struggling with is recognising split digraphs such as a-e, o-e, u-e and e-e. Please feel free to come and speak to me if you are not sure how these work. Maths The spring term also brings new challenges! We have been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Please practise this at home as this is an essential skill in Maths. Wider Curriculum Forest School Forest school was excellent fun this week as we explored the undergrowth for insects and alike hibernating over the winter. We then went on to build a bug hotel made of leaves and wood we found scattered around after Storm Eunice. Have a great week! Mrs Budiman |
