Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you all had a great weekend - what beautiful surroundings we live in! I hope you got the chance to step outdoors. Lucy was our star learner last week - she always shows great resilience and always cracks on with her work! Literacy Many of the children are reading very well in school and have made tremendous progress since starting Year 1 in September. Thank you for the effort you make at home, it really does make a huge difference to the children's attainment overall. We read with children each day during RWI but we also try to read with children at least once a week on top of this. Can I remind you it is our expectation and part of the Year 1 homework to read at least 5 times a week for at least 5-10mins. I have placed a reminder in the children's reading diaries where i have noted this is not recorded. Just a signature from you or your child will let us know they are on track with their home learning. Maths We are studying arrays as part of our work on multiplication and division. This week we will be doing the X5 multiplication test on Friday so get revising. As you see below many of the children are already Stars at the X10. We will repeat these tests until the children are secure with the X2, X5 and X10 multiplications. Humanities We have explored the meaning of being an explorer and adventurer. We will study important or significant individuals through this topic. Science We will continue our work on plants. Last week we looked at wild flowers. I would recommend taking the children for a walk in the bluebell woods beside the river in North Tawton, There is a fantastic display of wild flowers that you could explore. Have a fabulous week!
