Hi Every one
We hope that you are all well. The children have made a fantastic start on practising the school play. They are beginning to know when the say their lines and the singing is sounding great. Please can they continue to practise next week as the better they know their lines the more confident they will feel. We have finished writing our Goldilocks sequel story in English. We have edited it. At the beginning of next week, they will be learning and writing the Christmas story. In maths, we have been looking at adding one-digit numbers to two-digit number including bridging ten. We will continue this next week. We are also continuing learning the number facts really fluently. The children have made some beautiful Christmas tree decorations to sell at the fair in art. We hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the Christmas Fair! All best Year 2 Team

Hi Everyone,
The children have coped with some change this week with a new teacher but they have done very well. They should have Mrs Murch on Monday to Wednesday and me on Thursday and Friday. Any concerns, please do let me know. It is a Thursday blog this week. The children have been working really hard at re-telling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears from Goldilocks' perspective. We have seen some amazing acting this week to help the children with their writing. Next week, they are going to write a sequel to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In maths, we have continued to work on addition and subtraction. We have learnt how to add and subtract ones and now we are looking at adding and subtracting tens. We have continued our science lessons outside with the Devon Wildlife Trust. We have learnt all about food chains. This afternoon, we started our science space unit by learning what is space. In PE, we will be continuing our gym lesson. We have also been practising the play in preparation for the performance. It looks like it will be a cracking performance! Thank you so much for all your support, as ever, Misss Keen and the Year 2 Team Hi Everyone,
This week, we have continued with adding and subtracting in maths. We have been learning how to use different equipment to help with adding and subtracting. We have focused on number lines. In English, we have been writing wanted posters and letters of apology from Goldilocks to the bears. We completed our science lesson outside with the Devon Wildlife Trust. The children were very enthusiastic about finding woodlice and learning about their habitats. The children are enjoying gym in the hall on Friday during their Saints Southwest slot. We have also started running through our play ready for the Christmas performance. We will continue with this learning next week. We hope you have a great weekend. Year 2 Team Hi Everyone
It feels like a very eventful week back with the interruption of the storm. We hope the rest of the half term will run smoothly! The children have continued to look at efficient ways to add up using number bonds. They have been looking at making ten to help support them. For example, if you have 8 + 3, then you can think of it as 8 + 2 = 10 and then 10 + 1. They can then using this to help them add other numbers e.g. 78 + 3. We are also learning all the number bonds to 20 off by heart to support them with more complicated calculations later in school. In English, we have started reading the story of Goldilocks. We are going to look at two versions of Goldilocks to compare them and discuss how they are different or the same. We will have our Saints lesson as usual on Friday afternoon and we will start looking at being safe in PSHE. Next week, we should be starting our Devon Wildlife science sessions. Just a reminder that the children will need suitable outdoor clothing. Hope you have a great and less stormy weekend! Thank you Year 2 Team Hi Everyone
A huge congratulations to the children on a fantastic first half term in Beech Class. We have been really impressed to see how they are developing over the half term. This week, they wrote about their walk around North Tawton. They have been adding lots of exciting details. Many of them wrote about the lorries that hooted very loudly! We have put this together into a book. They have also used some great description for the buildings around North Tawton. We have continued learning about addition and subtraction. We will continue this after half term. We have looked at adding ones as well as tens and we have looked at how we can make a group of ten when adding two numbers to make adding more efficient. In science, we finished our unit by investigating how to change the length of a shadow using puppets. The children really enjoyed this. They have had a great afternoon playing with their toys before PE. They have worked very hard this term and we hope you all have a great break. Thank you for all your support. Year 2 Team Hi Everyone
It has been a very busy week again! The highlight of our week was definitely our walk around the town. The children were extremely sensible and really enjoyed talking about the places they like in North Tawton. We are going to be making a leaflet next week and writing all about North Tawton. We have planned it and collected vocabulary today. In maths, we have started our new addition and subtraction unit by revising number bond and fact families. The children have investigated how to be methodical when finding all the number bonds. In science, we began to learn how shadows are formed. We have been learning about sharing and being kind in PSHE. In computing, we have looked at IT in the wider world. We will continue this learning next week. Thank you as ever for your support. Please can the children remember to bring their home learning in on Thursday. Hope you have a great weekend. Year 2 Team Hi Everyone
This week we have continued to explore London in both English and History. The children have learnt more about the events of The Great Fire of London and we are also learning a song about it. I've been really impressed with how interested the children are in this topic. I've also promised them, we'll talk about fire safety, to alleviate any worries about fire! However, we have looked at the reasons why houses are much safer nowadays. In English, we have written postcards about a trip to London. We all enjoyed being farmers, scarecrows and animals on Monday, although there was so much straw in the classroom at the end of the day, it resembled a farmyard! In RE we have been learning about what it means to be Muslim. This week we listened to a story about a boy who threw stones at trees. The children all thought about what the story might be teaching us and how we can care for nature. We have continued to learn about light in science and we looked at reflection. We tested different materials to see which were the most reflective. Thank you so much for all the home learning you have been sending in. It is very much appreciated. Year 2 Team This week the children have done a super job of writing their own version of The Fox and the Star. We have been really impressed with their hard work and determination when it comes to writing. We have been continuing looking at two-digit numbers in our place value unit and learning how we can partition them in different ways. In science, we have continued to learn about light by thinking about how we see. In History we learnt about Medieval Britain and how William the Conqueror built The Tower of London. We had a great Indoor PE session and I was really impressed with how well the children worked to follow instructions.. We are going to be completing our Christmas cards this week ready for you to order over the next few weeks. Please look out for these.
Thank you to all those children who sent their home learning in so promptly this week. We have been really impressed by all their practising! We hope you have a great weekend. Year 2 Team Hi Everyone
It has been our first full week and it has flown by. We have been busy continuing our learning in English based on The Fox and The Star. We have gained a greater understanding of the story and written wanted posters and our own phrases based on those from the book. In maths, we have continued to learn all about place value in two-digit numbers. We have used Base 10 and place value charts to help our understanding. We have been enjoying our PE lessons with Saints and Real PE. We will continue this learning next week. There is a photo below which shows some of our learning in science. We have been investigating light sources and learning which objects are light sources. We hope that the children will be able to begin to talk to you about this at home. We will look further at understanding how we see next week. For home learning, you will have a new reading book and spellings inked to the children's phonics learning on a Monday. Please continue to practise as often as possible. You will have maths home learning on a Friday. Please also practise using Numbots and the Minute Maths app on the White Rose website. Any support needed with these, please do let us know. Thank you so much. The children have worked really hard and we hope you have a good weekend. Year 2 Team |
