Hi everyone,
What have we been up to in Beech class this week? In English, we have finished writing our own versions of Tadpole's promise. We followed a repeating pattern of events and key phrases. We thought about how animals change and about broken promises. We have looked at a practise SATs reading paper and talked about some strategies for answering the questions. In Maths, we have been looking at different types of questions ready for our SATS tests next week. We learnt to read the question carefully and underline the key words. We also learnt to double check our answers for small mistakes. With Mrs Ahmad we have been practising how to read the time to the nearest quarter of an hour. One thing to practise before next week is adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers mentally by counting back and forth in 10s and 1s. In Science, we went around the school hunting for natural and synthetic materials. We talked about natural and manmade objects and learnt all about plastics. In Art, we enjoyed working with clay to make models! In PE, we have been comparing jogging and running. We also looked at how to jump, how to run up and land properly. In RE, we carried on talking about forgiveness. Jude made an excellent point that if we don’t get things wrong, we will never learn. Everyone makes mistakes – the important thing is that we are sorry and forgive ourselves and each other. I have sent home quite a lot of homework this week – please don’t panic, as this will be for 2 weeks. If your child would like to do it all before next week, they are SATs style questions and will benefit them before the tests next week. If you would prefer to spread the learning over 2 weeks and half term, then that’s absolutely fine. Have a great weekend! Year 2 team
