Weekly updates!

Weekly update 11.12.20
We have a busy week ahead finishing off learning about information texts and money in Literacy and Maths. In the afternoons we will be learning how to sew! Hopefully we will have a lovely Christmas pouch to bring home. Mrs Birnie and I have a tricky week ahead - it's not an easy task to teach one child how to thread a needle - let alone a whole class! I'm sure the finished product will be worth it!
This afternoon the children conducted an experiment to discover which habitat woodlice prefer. They all made different habitats for the woodlice to explore before going outside the find woodlice to conduct their experiments. Afterwards they carefully watched the woodlice roam around their compartments before releasing them back outside. Thank you to all those that brought their wellies and outdoor clothing in. Tomorrow we are going to be recording our findings and drawing graphs to present our results.
Friday afternoon we will be having a Christmas party in the classroom. Due to restrictions it has to be a little different this year as there can be no party buffet. However if you wish, your child may bring in a snack/snacks of their choice for their own consumption. There will however be lots of fun and dancing and it will be a great way to end the term!🌲🎅🎅⛄
 
 
Weekly update 4.12.20
The children had a great time this afternoon exploring the school grounds for various minibeasts! They looked under rocks, logs, in trees and many other places. There was lots of laughter and excitement at the minibeasts they discovered!
We will going outside again next Thursday afternoon for our science lesson investigating the habitats of woodlice. If you wish your child may again bring their wellies/old shoes as they ground was very muddy in places. They can also bring additional clothing to ensure they are warm.
The children have all worked really hard this week completing a range of assessments. Miss Boyce and I are most proud of their attitude towards the assessments and that they have all tried their very best. Well done Beech Class!
 
Weekly update  27.11.20:
This week the children have had enormous fun reading the book ‘Stuck’ by Oliver Jeffers. Mirroring the story, the children threw items on top of the book case and tried to find a away to get them all down. Their writing was very funny to read and also there was a big improvement in starting sentences with words other than ‘then’.
In Maths we have continued to consolidate our understanding of adding and subtraction. They understand the difference in methods and were able to apply their knowledge to solve problems.
In the afternoons we have been using the computers to make digital art pieces. Today we looked at Pop Art. The children then took pictures of themselves and used this to create digital art in the style of Andy Warhol! The pictures were very creative, some even designing face masks to bring Pop Art into 2020! They would look good in any gallery!
 
Weekly update  20.11.20
The children having been working very hard this week and have all produced an interesting, extended piece of writing in Literacy all about what’s important to them. They have tried very hard to ensure their writing includes their personal target and expanded noun phrases. It has been a joy reading their writing. Next week we are starting a new book ‘Stuck’ and focusing on including time phrases in our writing.
The children have also been investigating how words can have the same sound but different spellings for example the long /e/ sound can be made from /ie/, /ee/, /ea/, /y/, /e-e/.
In Maths we have continued to develop our knowledge of tens and ones. We have been using practical resources to understand how to add using the column method. We will be continuing with this next week.
In the afternoons we have continued to learn about oceans and continents, focusing on different landmarks within each continent. Next week we are going to be focusing on computing skills which I am sure the children will very much enjoy!
