Dear North Tawton Families and Friends, It was such a disappointment to hear the news on Monday that the government road map out of lockdown has been delayed. This means we remain at Stage 3 with our current school risk assessments and measures in line with the government policy For this reason we are not able to go ahead with our plans for our summer community event, this also stops plans staff had for events including parents attending our sports day. While many of us are bitterly disappointed, we must all understand this is for the health and wellbeing of our staff and pupils at school, our families and community members. With the new variant, and numbers rising again, it is of course the right decision. We will do our very best to make sure the end of term is a special time, for our Year Six pupils in particular. Swimming In happier news, it was a delight to accompany Year Six to the pool in Okehampton for their first swimming lesson together this week. They were an absolute credit to us; coping brilliantly with the routine, wearing masks on the coach and listening to the swimming instructors. They have been divided in to smaller groups so that they have ability appropriate lessons and all get the most out of the following weeks. All they need to do is get changed quicker so we are not late back to school! Mr Foreman and I will be making plans for the new school year and will let pupils and parent know our timetables in due course. Hot Weather We have been reminding the children to keep healthy in this hot weather.  Take off thick jumpers but cover sensitive skin, apply sun cream, wear a hat, seek out the shady spaces, sunglasses are allowed and most importantly drink water!
Please make sure they have water bottles with names on. They do also need a jumper and light coat in school because as we know, our hot weather doesn’t last! FONTS – UPDATE – 18 June 2021 FONTS are looking for a new Chair and Treasurer – details will be posted on Facebook and ClassDojo as soon as possible. Without these roles FONTS can’t continue and a valuable source of support for the school will be lost – if you would like to know more about either of the roles, please contact FONTS (as below) or see Julie Steward. Monday 28th June 2021 – Bag2School – please bring tied black bags of donations to North Tawton Rugby Club on one of the following dates / times – details of what can be donated are on FONTS facebook pages. We are keeping everything crossed that by the start of the new school year, we will be able to get back to organising some fun events for the school community.
