Hello everyone,
Year 2 have been working hard this week and there have been several highlights. In English, we have been enjoying our text 'Wolves' by Emily Gravett. The children have been learning all about the features of non-chronological reports and information texts. They have been looking at sub-headings and gathering facts about wolves. The children have also been learning how to gather and organise their information using a spider diagram. In mathematics, the children have been learning about mass and capacity. They have been learning how to read scales and apply this to different questions. This is a perfect area of mathematics to practise and apply at home. If at any point you are cooking and measuring ingredients over the weekend, please encourage your young person to join in and use and apply their learning in this real life context - it'll really help them back in school. Finally, the children have been continuing to develop their gymnastic sequence work, building up their sequence and each week learning new gymnastic elements and looking to improve their body tension and extension. This week, we have filmed the sequences, so that we are able to watch them back before the next session, so that the children can peer assess their work and look to make improvements. We therefore though you might like the chance to see some sequences so far, please remember these are not the finished article! Wishing you all a very restful weekend. The year 2 team.

Hello everyone
What a very busy week! The children in year 2 have continued to work very hard and are all doing their best which is great to see. We have started our new English Sequence - Wolves. The children will be learning all about non fiction texts and how to write non chronological reports. In mathematics, everyone has been getting to grips with measure, focusing on units of length; comparing and problem solving. In art we have been exploring primary and secondary colour mixing and carefully looking at how to adjust these for variations of shade, in preparation for a range of painting tasks in the weeks ahead. Moreover, it was super to see so many of you attending the Parent Carer Meetings held this week. The meetings were extremely positive and reflected the children's hard work this term. It was lovely to meet so many of you and we are both very grateful for your support and appreciation. If there is anything further we can do to support your child and you at home with their learning, please do not hesitate to contact us in school. We will be happy to help in anyway we can. We hope you all have a very restful weekend, after such a full week for everyone. Best wishes The year 2 team. Dear all,
It has been a very productive and positive first week back for year 2. It has been super to see the children grow in confidence and maturity over the first half of this term. This is now being reflected in the way in which they are approaching their learning in class. The children have been learning all about and using conjunctions and possessive apostrophes in English; using and applying the 5x table in mathematics; how to locate Uganda on a world map in Geography; and how to develop and improve a gymnastic sequence in PE. The children have especially enjoyed learning about how to apply expression to illustrate a character's feelings as part of their art unit of work: Drawing - Tell a story. You can find some of their work uploaded on Class Dojo for you to enjoy. Finally, thank you to all of you who have booked a time slot for the upcoming Parent Carer meetings next week. If you are still needing to book a time, please contact us and we would be happy to help. Wishing you all a very restful weekend. The year 2 team. Hello Our final week, this half term, has been a very busy one in Year 2. In English, the children have been really enjoying their new text 'The Minpins' by Roald Dahl. This is a classic primary school text which I am sure many of you will know. The children have been working hard writing character descriptions and using the text to develop their vocabulary and words choice. Well done year 2 a super start to our new unit. In mathematics, we have been looking at multiplication and division and children have been learning about arrange of different aspects, including arrays, doubling and halving, and how to use and apply this knowledge. The are doing very well, so please keep practising their times tables over the holiday; this extra support really helps them. Also this week, alongside the other curriculum areas, we have now finished making our whole class story pop-up book (as mentioned last week); I know the children are really proud of the book! We hope you enjoy the pictures of the finished article... Finally, after our first half term, Mrs Murch and I would like to thank: the year 2 families for all their ongoing support since the start of January; the year 2 children for all their hard work and effort over the past weeks; and all the school staff for their help and guidance. We would both like to wish you all a very restful half term break, and we look forward to seeing you all after the holiday. Mrs Murch and Mr Legg Hello everyone,
We hope that you are all well and have had a good week. The main highlight for Year 2 this week has been completing our English teaching sequence 'The Bear and the Piano'. The children have worked extremely hard over the past few weeks, gaining new learning and have thoroughly enjoyed the story. To end the sequence, the children have drafted their own version of the story. They have taken time to carefully edit and improve their work. Finally, they have written up their version and published their writing carefully. The real highlight has been using their art and DT skills to turn their published story into a pop-up book page. All these pages are now being complied into a whole class pop-up book entitled 'The Animal Orchestra' and this will be a super testament to all their hard work. We hope the book will be ready next week, so please do look out for the pictures of the finished article! It will have pride of place on display in our classroom, so if you are in school next week, please feel free to have a read. Wishing you all a super weekend Mrs Murch and Mr Legg Hello everyone,
It has been another very successful and positive week in year 2, with some super highlights! In English, children have enjoyed writing their own versions of 'The Piano and the Bear'. They have been working hard to use what they have been taught in their writing to make their sentences more detailed and interesting, especially thinking about how to use coordinating and subordination conjunctions to develop their compound sentences. They are really looking forward to next week when we will publish their work and create our own class pop up book, containing all their wonderful stories. In maths, we have now moved onto learning about multiplication and division. Please keep supporting your young people at home with their times table: it really does help them in their class learning. If anyone needs any support with this, please let us know, and we will be happy to help. In history, we have been learning all about the life and work of Mary Seacole. The children were quick to recognise the incredible contribution she made, in the face of the many difficulties and social injustices which she overcame. I am sure that the children would be keen to share what they have learnt about this remarkable, historic person, so please do ask them. Finally, Beech Class has become a new Quiet Room at lunchtimes, where those children in KS1 who would like to spend a quieter lunchtime away from the main playground, can come and work on mindful colouring. A huge thank you to all of those children in year 2 who have used this opportunity so well this week; they set a brilliant example to the reception and year 1 children who have attended. Well done to you all. Wishing you all a very enjoyable weekend. Mrs Murch and Mr Legg Hello,
A huge thank you to all of you who were able to attend Monday's meeting this week. It was lovely to see so many of you and to have chance to begin to get to know the year 2 families. We understand that the time of the meeting may have been difficult for some parents and carers, so if you were unable to attend, please do contact us here in school if you have any questions or queries. Once again, this week has been very positive with all the year 2 children working hard and doing well. We have been continuing to develop our writing skills in English and have been developing a deeper understanding of our text 'The Bear and the Piano'. We hope you enjoyed hearing the online narrated version last week! To support our mathematics work with money, we have opened a year 2 'shop' where learners can handle money (plastic coins of course) and work through various problems using these concrete apparatus, which really helps consolidate their understanding. The children have really enjoyed learning how to use charcoal as a drawing medium in art, and have started to develop their confidence to review and improve their work. There have been many super moments, but music was a real highlight of the week, as the children had their first experience of playing djembe drums as a whole class. Everyone worked together brilliantly to play different rhythms in time with each other, and they have begun to understand how these rhythms are represented in musical notation. Unfortunately due to internet issues at school we're unable to attach any pictures of this on the blog, however some were posted on Class Dojo earlier in the week for you all to see how much the children enjoyed this session. We are all looking forward to next week's djembe session already! Wishing you all a very good weekend. Mrs Murch and Mr Legg Hello everyone,
Mrs Murch and I would like to thank all of the year 2 pupils for their hard work this week. This term seem to have flown by. The children are very enthusiastic learners and are a credit to the school. Thank you for everything you have done to support them this term. They have produced some excellent instructions on how to catch Santa and should be totally prepared for Christmas Eve. They have finished the unit on addition and subtraction and will learn about shape next term. We have finished our last outdoor science lesson by making a habitat and we have learnt all about space in our other science lessons. They have learnt about digital photos in computing. It has been a pleasure to teach them and get to know them this term. I will certainly miss them and all of you but hope to see you out and about. We hope you have a fantastic break and are well rested for the New Year. Thank you Miss Keen PS Hope that Father Christmas comes... Hi Everybody
Thank you so much for all your hard work supporting the children with their play. The costumes looked great and they have done such a good job of learning their lines. We have really enjoyed their performances. We have also been adding and subtracting two-digit numbers using Base 10. We will finish this unit next week. They have been working on learning the Year 1 and 2 Common Exception words and we will continue testing them on these to see what more they need to learn. We have been reading How To Catch Santa and next week the children will be writing some instructions for catching Santa. Watch out for this! They finished their geography unit this week on the United Kingdom. We hope you have a relaxing weekend after all the excitement of the play. Thank you Year 2 Team |
