Dear North Tawton Families and Friends, Welcome back to school after the half term break! It was lovey to see the children refreshed and ready for learning on Monday. School Review On Wednesday we had a school review by members of our Trust, two of whom are Ofsted trained inspectors. They looked at safeguarding, behaviour, teaching and learning across the school. They observed lessons, scrutinised school books, held meetings with subject leaders, our SENDCO, school council and myself. They examined school systems and record keeping and spoke with many pupils and staff during the course of the day. eThe review highlighted the areas we are achieving highly in and clarified the areas where we need to focus and how we can be supported to do this.
Our highlights included; pupil attitudes and behaviour for learning, and teacher knowledge and passions for the subjects they lead. The team particularly noted children’s love of reading, and oracy skills as strengths. They also commented upon personal development and well being as being evident across the school. All subjects are taught well; with music, phonics and PSHE highlighted as particular strengths. To further improve quality of education and standards across the school, over the following weeks we will be reviewing our feedback policy, further developing our techniques to support SEND children in the classroom, and improving our record keeping. The pupils were an absolute credit to us! They spoke highly of their learning and were able to speak confidently about school systems to keep them safe. Although these reviews can be quite daunting for us (the staff that is!) they are really useful and we have benefitted from the experience. We all want North Tawton to be the best school it can be and we welcome challenge as well as support to do this. Nursery News We are delighted to have recruited a nursery supervisor who will be joining us in September to work with the team to further develop our EYFS. She will join us for a few days before the end of term so she can begin planning with the nursery team and meet children and parents. Rev News Many of you will be aware that Rev Nick Weldon will be moving on to pastures new. While we wish him all the best in his new appointment this means of course we have to say goodbye to him and the family. He will be letting us know of the moving date (probably September / October) so we will save our farewells for nearer the time. RSE lessons This term we are teaching our Relationship and Sex Education lessons, do check the website for lesson content so you know what the children will be learning about in school. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to talk to class teachers, Sarah Keen or Tara Penny, we are happy to support. Requests from our office staff As far as possible, medical appointments should happen outside of school time. However, if you do need to take your child for an appointment during school time, please inform the school office staff by email or phone. All appointments need to be recorded using a form which is available on the parent section of the website, or can be requested. We also need a copy of the medical appointment letter or email, otherwise absence will not be authorised. Mrs Adams and Mrs Cassels. Class Learning Do look at the class blogs each week to see what the classes have been learning.
