Happy Friday!

What a week, Dragon eyes, atmospheric writing and hundredths!

As the Sun is upon us and getting slowly hotter as the weeks pass, can I please remind you to send children in sun-creamed, with hats and a water bottle - remember Slip, Slop, Slap!

​This week, we have continued work on our unit on decimal numbers in Maths. This week we have concentrated on hundredths and the place value of decimal numbers. In English we have explored using adverbials and noun phrases to write about the civilisation of Weslandia. We worked on our cricket skills in our  P.E. coaches session and our Fielding and striking skills in outdoor P.E. through rounders. We continued our Adaptation work in Science and in History, we studied the Vikings with Mrs Nuthall.  We have also been learning about the classroom and the things that are in it in French.

In our Book Club book, The Firework Makers Daughter by Phillip Pullman, we have been exploring how we can use synonyms to change a sentence but not its meaning.

The highlight of this week for me has been the superb atmospheric writing that we worked on with some of year 3 on Thursday, it is superb. I was really impressed with the results so well done Ash class! (See examples in photos)

​Next week, we continue our work on Vikings in History, complete our Dragon eyes in art, we are doing some work around Growth, or Positive Mindset in PSHE and will continue our work in R.E. on Pentecost. We  have a very creative Music topic based around imagery and poetry, which the children will be completing with Miss Penny. We will also have P.E. on Wednesday, and again on Friday.

  In terms of home learning, can I remind everybody that the expectation is that children read for at least 10 minutes at home everyday, this can be magazines, newspapers, manuals, cookery books, as well as their reading books, as it is all reading.   I would also like children to spend time working on their times tables, which are vital in so many areas of the Maths curriculum, I have set them 25 minutes worth of TTRS time as home learning. This can be done as a block, or it can be spread across the week, so that the children do 5 minutes a day. I have been really pleased to give out lots of Dojo points to people who have been completing their time!

Spellings will be out on Monday for the test on Friday. There will be a new TTRS sheet on Monday, some great scores this week even more 25s! I had more certificates to give out for people scoring 20 or over in our Soundcheck, so keep practising.
