Dear North Tawton Families, It has been an absolute joy to see the children back in school. They have made a fantastic start to the new school year. Across the school I have seen lots of learning and laughter in classes and at playtimes it has been wonderful to see children of different classes playing together again. Thank you for all of your support with our new morning and after school routines. In assembly this week we have been celebrating the successes of the Olympians of the Olympics and Paralympics. I showed the children clips from the games and we talked about the athletes having courage, dedication and self-belief to compete at this level, but also the humility, team work and personal sacrifices these people have made. One of my favourite moments was when Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar and Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy decided to share the gold medal for men’s high jump. Here’s a clip you may like to see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pzFZqUVjb4 We watched some of the BMX freestyle, wheel chair rugby and gymnastics. We can all take inspiration from these athletes and think about what in our lives we can focus on, try our best at and be our own champions. I played ‘Reach for the Stars’ and realised how old I was when none of the children knew the words! (This will change!) In singing assembly with Miss Boyce, we sang songs the children know well, and also played The Script Hall of Fame – another great one for us to learn! Behaviour We have introduced a way of looking at positive learning behaviour as all of us being ‘Ready, Respectful and Safe.’ All behaviour rules are to ensure children are ready to learn, are respectful of themselves, each other, the environment and resources, act in physically and emotionally safe ways. We will be using these terms with children, so please use at home too. Staff News We were very sad to say farewell to Mrs Stoneman today. She didn’t want a fuss made of her, but we just couldn’t let her go without showering her with gifts, cards and thanks. We know she will keep in touch and will continue to be part of North Tawton life as a grandparent and hopefully some volunteer work in the future! We welcome Miss Lethbridge, a student from Okehampton College who started a placement here today in Year 4. We also welcome Mr Berry and Miss Edwards our Saints Sports Coaches who are here on Thursday and Friday each week. And in other news, Miss Heffier is now Mrs Moffatt! Congratulations!
