Dear North Tawton Families and Friends, I have had a very busy but very enjoyable first week at North Tawton. I have to say what an incredible welcome I have had from the staff and the children. The staff have gone out of their way to make me feel part of the team, and I know that they are committed to supporting me and each other to give the children opportunities and experiences they will enjoy, learn from and remember. Throughout the week I have been popping in to classrooms to see the children at work, as well as going outside for playtimes and in the hall for lunch sittings. What hardworking and polite children they are! I am very lucky indeed to be here. Buildings and Grounds Update
The grounds here are amazing, having spent much of my career in schools with only a small concrete playground, I hope you appreciate how lucky the children are to have so much space, and grass! The running track lines were painted this week and we hope to be able to have all of our PE sessions outdoors now the weather is improving. Miss Prince is really eager to develop the forest school space as she is a trained forest school leader. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to explore the natural environment and challenge themselves in safe ways. Mr Kiff has been busy over the past weeks decorating rooms to make a SENDCO office, improve our storage and make more teaching spaces for our phonics and intervention groups. We have an architect visiting next week to look at how we can improve and develop the physical environment for our nursery and reception, watch this space! The staff have lots of plans for the school and we hope over time, and with covid restrictions lifting, we will be able to invite parents and community in to help us further develop the buildings and grounds. Happy St George’s Day! Today we celebrated St Georges Day in school – Nursery children looked particularly patriotic with their St George’s flag face paints! St George is the patron saint for England. Do ask children what they remember about him from my assembly. Younger children may enjoy this Cbeebies programme about Sam and Matthew celebrating the day (pre covid!) https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/lets-celebrate-st-georges-day Over the coming weeks, I look forward to getting to know more parents, and hopefully it will not be too long until we can have a social event together as a community. With very best wishes for the weekend Tara Penny Principal Comments are closed.
