This afternoon, our school councillors met with some of the ladies from FONTs to discuss ideas for the Summer Fair on Saturday 1st July. They had a great variety of ideas for stalls including the inevitable SOAK a TEACHER! They will be looking for volunteers to help on the day - all willing volunteers please contact a member of FONTs for details, see the FONTs page on this website for contact details.
The school council makes important decisions and are the voice of our pupils. They are the pupils first taste of democracy in action. In the Autumn term of each year, classes vote for two people to be a school councillor (one girl, one boy) . Prospective councillors have to write a speech about why they would be a good councillor and what they would do they do to make our school a better place. Those who are voted in by their class get a special badge of office, to let people know who they are.
School councillors attend meetings usually once every two weeks to think of new ideas for our school, students well being, fun activities, etc. They help to organise Summer/Christmas fairs, (alongside FONTs) initiatives, ideas and plans to make the school better for our pupils.
