I hope you all had a wonderful half term holiday. There are only a few week to go until we come to the end of this academic year. It is exciting to see how much the children have come on since they started in September. Can I gently remind you to book your lunches for your child on the school portal as this saves time in the morning. Reading Please keep up the reading at home, as I have previously mentioned children should read 5 times a week at home. Mrs Day has very kindly purchased a reading trophy for the best reader each week. We will be monitoring reading in the reading diaries and the child who has shown the most dedication to reading through the week with evidence of this in their home reading diary will receive the reward. Good Luck everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend - what beautiful surroundings we live in! I hope you got the chance to step outdoors. Lucy was our star learner last week - she always shows great resilience and always cracks on with her work! Literacy Many of the children are reading very well in school and have made tremendous progress since starting Year 1 in September. Thank you for the effort you make at home, it really does make a huge difference to the children's attainment overall. We read with children each day during RWI but we also try to read with children at least once a week on top of this. Can I remind you it is our expectation and part of the Year 1 homework to read at least 5 times a week for at least 5-10mins. I have placed a reminder in the children's reading diaries where i have noted this is not recorded. Just a signature from you or your child will let us know they are on track with their home learning. Maths We are studying arrays as part of our work on multiplication and division. This week we will be doing the X5 multiplication test on Friday so get revising. As you see below many of the children are already Stars at the X10. We will repeat these tests until the children are secure with the X2, X5 and X10 multiplications. Humanities We have explored the meaning of being an explorer and adventurer. We will study important or significant individuals through this topic. Science We will continue our work on plants. Last week we looked at wild flowers. I would recommend taking the children for a walk in the bluebell woods beside the river in North Tawton, There is a fantastic display of wild flowers that you could explore. Have a fabulous week! Mrs Budiman and Mrs Day Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have come back to school happy and refreshed this week. They have all impressed me with their excellent behaviour and brilliant work ethic. Our 'Star Learner' this week was Alex. Alex has been working very hard in his groups this week, working collaboratively with his peers. Literacy The children's reading continues to improve and their understanding of phonics is becoming more secure. In June they will take part in the Phonics Screening Check. I would urge you to read on a daily basis with your child as we approach this date - practise does make perfect! May I give a special mention to Francesca, Alex and Henry who have shown great motivation in their writing this week. They have aspired to do their best and have produced some lovely work. Maths In Maths we are starting our unit on multiplication and division. From next week we will be doing a multiplication test each week on a Friday. Humanities We will continue our work on London, looking at its geographical location and historical context. Like Dear Parents and Carers,
The children had a great first week back after the holidays and continue to impress me with their ability to transition back to school life so seamlessly. Literacy As we move closer to the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check I would once again encourage you to read with your child everyday and record this in their reading records. It is important for us to understand what children are doing at home and in school. One of the stumbling blocks many of the children are struggling with is recognising split digraphs such as a-e, o-e, u-e and e-e. Please feel free to come and speak to me if you are not sure how these work. Maths The spring term also brings new challenges! We have been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Please practise this at home as this is an essential skill in Maths. Wider Curriculum Forest School Forest school was excellent fun this week as we explored the undergrowth for insects and alike hibernating over the winter. We then went on to build a bug hotel made of leaves and wood we found scattered around after Storm Eunice. Have a great week! Mrs Budiman Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have had a very productive week. Logan is our 'Star Learner' - he has shown great determination and resilience in his learning this year. Literacy As always we are pushing forward with our Literacy learning in RWI. The children's writing is developing well and this week we wrote a story about telling a fib. The children's reading is also developing and as we approach the second half of spring term the children will need to really step up their home reading in preparation for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check. Maths In Maths we have been working on place value within 50. We have been discussing the number of tens and ones in numbers and have been representing numbers in various ways with our maths apparatus. History We have nearly finished our History studies looking at Henry VIII and will compare this figure to our current Queen next week. PSHE Today we have celebrated Children's Mental Health Week. We have thought about ourselves and how we can stay mentally healthy. We have also been thinking of positive things about ourselves. Science In Science we have been looking at different types of animals that hibernate in the winter months. We continue to record the weather taking note of the season. Have a great week! Mrs Budiman and Mrs Day Dear Parents and Carers,
Our Star Learner this week is Daisy who amazed us with her number bond knowledge. Well done Daisy it's great to see you feeling so proud of yourself! Literacy Once again the children are working hard in Literacy and I have been really impressed with some of the writing I am seeing. The children are increasingly aware of the sizing of their letters and are working hard to improve in all aspects. Please continue to read daily with your child. Maths We have been working hard on subtraction this week and the use of number bonds to help us with this. The children have worked hard on these ideas and persevered with some difficult ideas - so a very well done to you all! Wider Curriculum This week we made our own crowns in History and explored the timeline of Henry VIII many marriages. The children were also part of a talk with some medical professionals this week in which they found out something about careers in the medical profession. Forest School We will be doing Forest School on Monday so don't forget your kit. The children will not need their PE kit on Monday but will still need it on Friday. Have a great week! Kind regards, Mrs Budiman, Mrs Day and Mrs Bewes |
