In the past week Chestnut class:
We have been looking at the following sounds:
We have also been extremely busy assessing children's phonics progress. Many children are making tremendous progress due to the home reading they are doing on a daily basis.
We concluded our work on addition and subtraction this week and will be starting a new unit on Shape.
PSHE Anti-Bullying Week
We have discussed with the children how to report bullying and also how to deal with behaviour we are uncomfortable with using ABC!
Ask them to stop!
But if the don't,
Call an adult!
We started our unit of work on the local area and have enjoyed using google maps to find our houses and identify human and physical features of the environment. Children recorded in the form of a tally chart the different sort of houses found on Exeter Street.
Have a good week!
The Week Ahead in Chestnut Class!
We will be reviewing the graphemes and phonemes:
oo (short vowel sound)
Please see the link below, children can watch these links to consolidate their learning:
Over the coming weeks we will be once again focussing on poetry. This week we will be practising using alliteration and rhyme to create stanza for our own poems.
The children are beginning to master their use of phonics in reading. By Christmas, we would normally expect to see children reading within blue band. Book bands follow this order:
By the end of the year we would hope children were reading Orange or Turquoise. If your child is reading below Blue band be sure to read with them every night for at least 5 minutes. It will and does make all the difference!
We continue our work on addition and subtraction to 10. We will explore this through the use of part whole models, number sentence work and consolidation of the use of the symbols for addition, subtraction and equals.
Here are some useful videos on White Rose should you wish to dive deeper!
This week we will be trying to answer the question 'What do Christians believe God is like?' by exploring parables like the The Lost Son and searching for their meaning.
Have a great week!
