Here's a glimpse of what we've been up to this week: Maths - Mental Addition and Subtraction with Place Value Knowledge: In our recent math lessons, we've been diving deep into the world of numbers. We've discovered how to mentally add and subtract using our knowledge of place value. It's been a journey of understanding how numbers work and making our calculations more efficient. English - Descriptive Story about "The First Drawing" Our English classes have been brimming with creativity as we've finished studying grammar. We've now embarked on an imaginative adventure, writing descriptive stories about a captivating book called "The First Drawing." This story takes us back to the Stone Age, where we explore the birth of art through the eyes of our imaginative characters. PE - Gymnastics, Point Balances, and Jumps: In the PE class, we've been mastering the art of gymnastics. Balancing on points, executing graceful jumps, and perfecting our movements have been our focus. It's not only a fantastic physical activity but also an opportunity to improve our coordination and flexibility. Art - Cave Wall Painting Using Natural Paints and Our Hands: Our artistic talents have been unleashed in our art class as we recreated the magic of the Stone Age. We've been creating beautiful cave wall paintings using natural paints and, most excitingly, our hands. Our classroom is transforming into a cave filled with incredible, prehistoric artwork. Science - Understanding Conclusions and Investigation Writing: In our science lessons, we've been learning about the importance of drawing conclusions from experiments. We're discovering how to present our findings in a structured manner, including the key components of an investigation. It's a fascinating journey into the world of scientific inquiry. We're incredibly enthusiastic about all the subjects we're exploring this week, and we can't wait to share more of our adventures with you. Stay tuned for our next blog post as we continue to learn and grow together! Have a great holiday! Year 3 team. Welcome back to our classroom blog, where we'll take you on a journey through our exciting week of learning. This week has been packed with thrilling activities, from honing our football skills in PE to exploring a captivating new book in English, diving into place value and ordering numbers in maths, and even making beautiful music with glocks. Let's dive right in!
On Monday, the classroom welcomed an array of scarecrows, farmers, vegetables and animals as we celebrated the Harvest festival. This of course included singing about the brilliant Dingle Dangle Scarecrow! We kicked off our English lessons with the introduction of a captivating new book, 'The First Drawing' by Mordicai Gerstein. The story whisked us away to ancient times and ignited our imaginations. We can't wait to uncover the mysteries of this enchanting tale as we read together throughout the week. In Mathematics, we have further explored place value, especially ordering and counting in 50s. With colourful manipulatives and engaging activities, we tackled challenging problems and strengthened our understanding of this essential math concept. The children are challenging themselves through tackling mathematical reasoning and problem solving questions in our Dive Deeper questions. Keep up the amazing work guys! On Thursday, we laced up our sneakers and headed to the school playground for our PE session. It was all about football skills! We dribbled, passed, and even practiced some fantastic goals. Teamwork was key, and we cheered each other on as we improved our ball-handling abilities. The skills were then tested through playing an array of matches where those beautiful skills were showcased! Our music class was an absolute blast today. We explored the enchanting world of glockenspiels, creating melodious tunes that filled the room. Each note felt like a piece of a musical puzzle, and together, we composed a beautiful piece that showcased our newfound skills. Music truly has the power to unite and uplift! As the week drew to a close, we reflected on our journey of learning and growth. From our football games to our literary adventures, mathematical discoveries, and musical harmonies, it has been a week filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a thirst for knowledge. We're excited to carry this enthusiasm into the next week and continue our educational odyssey. Don’t forget to get reading!! We look forward to hearing all about your favourite books on Monday!! This will be important in shaping our new reading display in the corridor. Thank you for joining us on this wonderful journey through our classroom activities. Stay tuned for more adventures in the coming weeks as we continue to explore, learn, and grow together. Until next time! I hope you're all doing well. This week, we had an exciting time exploring and learning in various subjects. Let's take a look at what we did:
In our RE classes, we looked into the interesting Creation Story and the beautiful Garden of Eden. We learned that in the beginning, God created the heavens, the earth, and all the living creatures. We talked about how God is often seen as the ultimate creator, carefully shaping the world. We also talked about the peaceful Garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve lived in harmony with nature and each other. This story reminds us how important it is to take care of our environment and the animals we share it with. In PE, we worked on our football skills, focusing on two main things: kicking the ball into the goal and defending our own goal. We practiced aiming and kicking accurately, as well as improving our defensive moves to protect our goal. We remembered that football is not just about scoring goals but also about working together as a team! We were lucky to have an author visit this week. We spent an exciting hour learning about the book "The Extraordinary Adventures of Sir David Attenborough." It was a fantastic chance to learn from an expert about the amazing world of wildlife and conservation. Sir David Attenborough's adventures inspire us to explore and protect our planet's incredible biodiversity. In art, we got creative by drawing animals with charcoal. We took inspiration from ancient art and tried to draw animals the way early humans did. Charcoal helped us make bold and striking images like those found in ancient caves. Our music class was full of singing as we practiced some harvest songs. We had a great time singing "Harvest Samba" and "Cauliflowers are Fluffy." It was a wonderful way to celebrate the harvest season and show gratitude for the gifts of the earth. In maths, we kept exploring place value by working with numbers up to 1000. We learned how to show these numbers on a number line, which helps us understand their values and positions better. This skill will be important for more advanced maths concepts. Great job, Willow Class! You're doing fantastic in your learning journey, and we're really proud of how hard you're working. Keep exploring, learning, and growing until next week. Best wishes, Year 3 team We've had an exciting time in class, exploring a variety of subjects and engaging in some interesting activities.
In RE, we began our journey into beliefs and science by exploring the Christian creation story. It was fascinating to learn about the different beliefs the children hold about how the world was created. We discussed how science provides its own explanations, and it's important to respect and understand various perspectives. In Music we played "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" on the glockenspiels. We learned about rhythm, harmony, and teamwork. It's amazing how music can bring us all together. But that wasn't all! We were introduced to Indian musical instruments. The vibrant sounds of instruments like the sitar and tabla transported us to a different world. Learning about music from different cultures broadened our horizons and made us appreciate the beauty of diversity. In English, we read "The Fox and the Star," a heart-warming story about a lonely fox who had lost his friend. We were deeply moved by the fox's plight, and as a class project, we wrote letters to him, offering our advice and friendship. It was a touching exercise in empathy and kindness, and it reinforced the importance of being there for others when they're going through tough times. In Maths, we learned about number lines, going all the way up to 100! Placing numbers on the number line helped us understand the place value. That's it for now! We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into our Year 3 classroom. Stay tuned for more updates on our learning journey. We can't wait to see what the next weeks have in store for us, as we continue to explore, learn, and grow together. Until next time, Year 3 Team What a fantastic week we have had! The first week back after the summer can be daunting but the class have been brilliant. We have gotten started with our new art unit of Pre-historic Artwork. The children have drawn sketches of native animals such as, foxes, deer's and barn owl's focusing on shapes within them to build upon their work. This has been in the style of Cave drawings using earthy tones to add detail, similarly to that of Pre-historic artists.
The pupils have also been writing recounts of their summer holidays which have been accompanied by beautiful drawings. Today we have explored the exciting topic of Indian music and the different types of instruments they use. We will continue with this next week as they begin to create their own Indian style music pieces. The pupils have taken part in a nature walk finding different artefacts for a new exciting display outside Ms Penny's office! The diorama will be revealed on Wednesday when our mystery book is delivered to the class. Have a brilliant weekend Willow Class! Miss Wallis Hi Everyone,
We have been working hard this week to generate our ideas ready for writing our own myths. The children have lots of exciting ideas and some are even inventing their own God and Goddesses. We are really looking forward to reading them. We have been continuing telling the time in maths and we have also been completing lots of times table practice. We will continue with this next week. The children have been busy practising for the play as well. They have competed in Quad Kids (jumping and throwing) which will be excellent practice for Sports Day. They have had many compliments on their behaviour so we are feeling very proud. On Friday, we carried on learning about column multiplication. We started looking at some 2 step problems which involved addition or subtraction as well as multiplication. Sometimes we forgot to answer the whole question. We will carry on with this next week!
Have a lovely weekend! The children have done really well to cope with this heat. It has been beautiful but boiling!. The children have been learning a Norse myth by discussing the structure and acting it out in groups. They have also been working hard to learn the meaning of their spellings. The children have finished their learning on money and have begun to learn about time. Their challenge is to make sure that they can tell the time to the nearest minute. Next week, we will continue this. We have had another play rehearsal and started to make our street scene. We will continue with this and learn the songs next week. We designed a healthy meal in Life Skills and we began to learn about the water cycle in geography. If you look at the classroom window, you will see a water cycle that they have made. We will also be learning more about this next week.
This afternoon, we have been practising our play. The singing is sounding amazing!! A massive welcome back to everyone. It has been a fantastic week. We have really enjoyed the sunshine. The children have written some character description of Greek Gods and Goddesses and included the present perfect in their writing - not easy to do! We are amazed at how they are unfazed by each new challenge. We have started looking at money in maths and learning how to convert between pounds and pence. If you are going to a shop this weekend and you can, please show them some coins and let them see how it works. We always tend to spend on cards these days which makes this learning trickier for the children. They have been amazing at their first swimming sessions. Next week, we are carrying on with money and we will edit our character descriptions and start learning Greek myths to look at writing a Greek myth. We have also started practising the play.
In Art, we have carried on with our weaving and making stop motion animations. In Music we have been learning all about samba music! In our Friday maths lesson we are continuing with column multiplication and exploring 'Always/ Sometimes/Never statements. Have a lovely weekened! |
