Exploring the World of Adjectives: Language is a powerful tool, and adjectives add depth and color to our communication. In our literacy lessons, we have been immersing ourselves in the world of adjectives. We have discovered how adjectives describe and enhance nouns, making our writing more vivid and engaging. Through descriptive storytelling, we have unleashed our imaginations and crafted captivating sentences filled with adjectives. Unveiling the Magic of Place Value: Recently, we have been diving into the concept of place value. We have explored numbers up to 100, learning how each digit's position determines its value. Through hands-on activities, games, and engaging discussions, we have strengthened our understanding of place value and how it forms the foundation of mathematical operations. Journey into the Animal Kingdom: Mammals and Reptiles: Science has taken us on an awe-inspiring adventure through the animal kingdom, focusing on mammals and reptiles. We have learned how mammals, such as dolphins and elephants, nurse their young and have warm-blooded bodies. In contrast, reptiles, like snakes and turtles, lay eggs and have scaly skin. Exploring the Zones of the Sea and Its Benefits: Geography has guided our exploration of the vast and mysterious sea. We have dived deep into the different zones of the ocean, from the sunlit surface to the pitch-black abyss. We have discovered how these zones support diverse ecosystems, with marine life adapted to each zone's conditions. Additionally, we have learned about the sea's significance to human life, including its role in transportation, food production, and climate regulation. The ocean truly holds immense value and importance to our world. As I conclude this post, we hope you have enjoyed this glimpse into our classroom adventures. Thank you for being a part of our classroom community Kind regards, Mrs Budiman We’ve had another busy week in Chestnut class! The week started off with our trip to Newquay Zoo, we loved looking around and seeing all the animals especially the penguins and the meerkats! We also enjoyed a talk from one of the zoo keepers who told us more about the animals and even showed us some skulls!
Chestnut had a visit from Mrs. Cutler the Vet and they learnt all about her job as well as meeting her pretend poorly dog Oscar, and today the children had a visit from 2 police officers which included fingerprinting, having the chance to look at the police car, trying on uniform and getting pencils/stickers! We also continued and completed our DT work which was making a windmill! In Maths they have been learning all about numbers 1-50 using tens and ones and number lines! Chestnut have all worked really hard and written a great piece of writing about their favourite animal at the Zoo! Finally to complete our Science week we’ve all taken part in a Science Olympics which included paper aeroplane making, who can make the tallest tower using just paper and tape, making aluminium foil boats and seeing who’s can hold the most coins and a marble run distance! We hope you have a great weekend! Chestnut Team Dear Parents/Carers,
We have had a very busy week this week, catching up on our History, learning some Life Skills and making sure we know our sounds in Phonics. This week's start learner is Millie who has done a phenomenal job with her reading and phonics learning. Literacy Please continue to read with your child everyday for at least 5 minutes. We do as much as we can in school but time is limited and we have many tasks to complete with the children. The children are gaining confidence in spelling so please continue your good work at home practising for the weekly tests. Maths Next week we will continue our work on addition and subtraction within 20 to include doubles, finding the difference, related facts and missing number problems. History In History we have studied the lives of Bessie Coleman, Ernest Shackleton, Valentina Tereshkova, Neil Armstrong and next week we will finish our unit looking at the life of Sir Ranulph Fiennes. Have a great weekend. Kind regards, Rebecca Budiman Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have worked incredibly hard this week on all areas of the curriculum. Last week saw us start a small pond in the garden which I hope we can finish in the next few weeks. I am hoping to develop this area a little more as a wildlife haven that we can use for our Science teaching in KS1. Reading In the Spring term we move up a gear and my expectations will be high. We will need everyone to read for at least 5 minutes each day at home. This will be critical to your child's progress. APPEAL! We are looking for parent helpers to read with the children in KS1. Daily reading makes a big difference and we would love to be able to reach every child through the week. If you are available to help please let me know and I will pass on the necessary documentation. Thank you for help in advance! Maths We have been working on place value to 20. During this unit children explore how the different digits within a number have different place values. They have been ordering and comparing using these ideas. Y1-HL-Autumn-Block-4-Place-value-within-20-2020.pdf (whiterosemaths.com) Science In Science we are learning about the weather and seasons. This week we observed the rather exciting weather outside and used a thermometer to check the temperature. We are also learning our Seasons in order. History In History we are learning about Explorers and Adventurers. this week we looked at the life of Bessie Coleman. Have a great weekend! Kind regards, Mrs Budiman Dear Parents and Carers,
This week has been super busy!! We are rehearsing for the Nativity most days and the children have really got into the spirit, singing their hearts out and employing their best acting skills. Father Christmas visited with his elf this week and left the children a lovely gift. We are looking forward to opening these at our Christmas Party on Friday. The children can bring a party outfit to change into and I would be grateful for any contributions of snacks, although I will provide some myself. This afternoon we will be watching the KS2 Christmas Carol Service; a time to relax and enjoy the spirit of the Christmas for us all. The Nativity Please do remember to send in your child's costume on Monday so we can make our own final adjustment to costumes where needs be. Illness There has been a lot of illness throughout the school with many children and classes affected. We are trying to be particularly vigilant regarding hygiene in class. Please do keep your child home if they are too unwell to attend school. In particular please keep an eye out for symptoms of 'Hand, Foot and Mouth' disease and Scarlet Fever, as well as sickness bugs. Here are some useful links: Hand, foot and mouth disease. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/hand-foot-mouth-disease/ Scarlet Fever https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/scarlet-fever/ ...and of course COVID! Thank you for your vigilance. Kind Regards, Rebecca Budiman Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have been very busy this week through the afternoons making their Xmas baubles for the Christmas Fayre and practising the Nativity songs and lines. Please keep practising at home. Literacy I was delighted with the children's spellings this week once again - they are doing excellently! I am also seeing big improvements in handwriting. We are reminding all children to write on the line, size their letters appropriately and most importantly form letters correctly from the top! Maths The children have been looking at 2D and 3D shape identification this week. Key 2D shapes they should know are squares, rectangles, triangles and circles - however it is always good to extend their learning so we have also looked at hexagons and octagons as well as pentagons and nonagons. Key 3D shapes are cylinders, cuboids, cubes, cones, spheres, pyramids (square-based and triangular based) and various prisms. Have a great weekend! Mrs Budiman Dear Parents
Our star learner last week was Freddie! He has put in an amazing effort at school and at home with his work - we are really proud of you Freddie! Literacy RWI continues and once again I just want to remind you to read with your child daily. Please keep reviewing the sounds - particularly Set 2 and 3 on the sheet provided. Maths The children are moving onto a new unit of work looking at 2D and 3D shapes. There are lots of lovely songs and videos on this topic on You-Tube to enjoy. Nativity If your child has words to learn (many don't) please do practise with them, they will need to know these off by heart. Illness There are lots of coughs and colds in class at the moment - please do keep children at home if they are too poorly for school. Kind regards, Rebecca Budiman |
