Welcome to Beech Class! Happy New Year!

Our topic this term - Heroes!

Mrs Stoneman - Classroom Assistant

Welcome back after the Christmas break. We are looking forward to an exciting time in Beech Class. As part of our 'Heroes' topic, we will be learning about Amelia Earhart and the Wright Brothers. We will be looking at lots of old photographs and writing about the events in their lives. We will practise using maps and following directions.  We will also learn about the history of the fire service and the Great Fire of London, ordering events chronologically and exploring the event from different people's perspectives.  We plan to visit the local fire station and learn how to stay safe and how to ask for help. In Computing, we will be programming bots and writing and debugging simple programmes. In Science and DT, we will learn about the properties of materials and design our own planes. In Art, we will learn about colour mixing and paint scenes from the Great Fire of London.  In PSHE we will be learning all about how to keep ourselves safe both in the real world and online!

Please make sure your child has the following in school EVERYDAY:-

Water Bottle

PE kit

Reading Folder

Homework book

Please make sure that you practise spellings everyday. Spellings will be stuck into your child's homework book every Friday for the following week. We test spellings every week at the back of the homework book, so that you can monitor your child's progress.

Please spend 15 minutes hearing your child read every day. Daily practise is essential when learning how to read. Please make a simple note in the reading folder, commenting on unfamiliar words, or any interesting questions and thoughts. We check reading records weekly when your child has their 1:1 reading time.

Topic Homework:

Once a term your child will be given a selection of project ideas to choose from which relate to our topic. They will be given plenty of time to produce a high quality piece of homework to bring into school and share.
