Happy Friday!
An action packed week of Mermaids, football and rounding. This week, we have been working on Place Value in Maths, in English, we are immersing ourselves in our new text The Mermaid of Zennor, with some pleasing results. In Science, we continued with our work on States of Matter, thinking this week about what happens when we heat a solid, liquid or gas. We have worked of body tension and posture in our gymnastics session (see photos). On Wednesday, we enjoyed our photographs and also wrote some fabulous descriptions of the Mermaid from our English text. On Thursday, we ended our Football sessions in P.E. with a mini tournament, the teamwork was fantastic. In terms of home learning, can I remind everybody that the expectation is that children read for at least 10 minutes at home everyday, this can be magazines, newspapers, manuals, cookery books, as well as their reading books, as it is all reading. I would also like children to spend time working on their times tables, which are vital in so many areas of the Maths curriculum, I have set them 25 minutes worth of TTRS time as home learning. This can be done as a block, or it can be spread across the week, so that the children do 5 minutes a day. Spellings will also start next week, so spellings have come home with the children to learn, as well as their Wider Curriculum home learning. Could the children do one activity really well and return it to me after half-term, you can do more if you want to, but I will expect one in. Next week, the children will be having P.E. on Tuesday and Thursday, so send them in, in their P.E kits on both of these days please. We will complete our work on Place Value in Maths, as well as this, we will begin our next unit in Maths - Addition and Subtraction, work on the Mermaid of Zennor in English, continue with States of Matter in Science, Romans in History and Drawing in Art. Have a great weekend, it's looking sunny! See you on Monday. Mr F Happy Friday!
An action packed week of Trees, authors and story writing. This week, we have been working on Place Value in Maths, in English, we are writing our own stories based on the theme of The Fox and the Star, with some pleasing results. In Science, we continued with our work on States of Matter, thinking this week about the structure of a solid, a liquid and a gas. We have worked of body tension and posture in our gymnastics session (see photos). On Wednesday, we enjoyed Music and R.E. sessions with Miss Boyce, we have also enjoyed a workshop with the Devon Wildlife Trust, based on Trees. Following this, we had a fabulous afternoon on Thursday, when we had a workshop with visiting author Leisa Stewart-Sharpe. She was amazing and captivated the children with her story telling. You are most welcome to join us for this, in St Peter's Church at 2pm on Monday. On Wednesday, we have individual photographs with Vanessa Perri-Khoo (which was rescheduled, due to the poor weather on Wednesday), so make sure that we're smart. Have a great weekend, see you on Monday. Mr F Happy Friday! A full week of hard graft, wet playtimes and Christmas card designs?! Another lovely week weather wise. It was great to really get going with English, Maths and other subjects across the curriculum this week. This week, we have been working on Place Value in Maths, in English, we wrote letters using modal verbs to Fox the character in our text, The Fox and the Star. In Science, we began our work on States of Matter. On Wednesday, they enjoyed their first Music and R.E. sessions with Miss Boyce and we started a new P.E. unit based on Football with our Saints South West Coach. Finally this week, as part of our Romans topic, we have been studying and acting out the story of Romulus and Remus - the myth that explains the creation of Rome. (see photos) On Wednesday evening, some of the children visited Chagford to take part in a concert. They sang beautifully and really enjoyed it - as did the audience. Mr F Happy Friday everyone.
It seems strange to be writing about the first week back, when the children have only had three days back but they have been a superb three days. I have really enjoyed welcoming the children back and feeling their enthusiasm for learning new concepts and ideas, I have been really impressed with their attitude and the willingness that they have to develop new knowledge. This week, we have tackled, English, Maths, P.E., Art, Book Talk and Life Skills. I have included a few photos below so that you get a flavour for how hard they have been working. A new timetable be be posted on Monday but for reference, P.E days are Tuesday and Thursday, so have your kits ready! We will also introduce home learning next week, composed of reading every night for at least 10 minutes, times tables learning for Maths, Spelling and a Wider Curriculum home learning for the half term. I hope that you all have a great weekend, I will see you on Monday. Mr F Just a quick start of the week update from me this time!
Last week, the children in Ash Class took part in our KS2 play 'Cinderella and Rockerfella'. I think everyone who came to watch would agree that both performances were excellent, with fantastic acting, singing and dancing. I'm so pleased that everyone in the class had the chance to get up on the stage, and really proud of them all for taking part. This week is a bit of an unusual one as I'm off to France tomorrow with our Year 6's. Ash Class will be looked after by Miss Boyce and Miss Collins for the rest of the week. I look forward to seeing them all again next Monday for our final week of term! Take care. Well, I can't start this blog without saying how incredibly proud I am with all of the children for some superb multiplication check results... well done! Everybody should feel pleased with their results and proud of the hard work they put in. We had a little celebration of results and Mr Foreman came to congratulate everyone too. A huge pat on the back is well deserved.
In other news, we've continued with our play rehearsals. Today we had a rehearsal in costume and it was the best yet. We're all very excited for the performances next week! As well as plenty of play practise, we've continued learning about shape in Maths. Quadrilaterals, polygons and lines of symmetry have been the highlights this week. We've been publishing writing in English and have had some really artistic double page spreads designed and created. We covered our RSE content in Life Skills and the children were very mature and sensible in discussions during the lesson. Have a great weekend and enjoy the summer fayre! Another week has flown by and we're now in the middle part of this term with lots of exciting things coming up. Next week is our assessment week so the children will be sitting a reading paper and two maths papers. Once these are done, we have move up morning on Thursday and sports day on Friday to look forward to.
This week, in English, the children researched their own famous places in Chile including Easter Island, the Marble Caves and the Atacama Desert. They found out facts about these places and turned them into short paragraphs ready to include in their final double page spread. In Maths, we started a unit of work on shape. We learnt about acute, right and obtuse angles, along with the different types of triangles and their properties. Play rehearsals are coming along well and we are seeing so much improvement now. It's going to be great! Please could costumes be sent into school in a named carrier bag next week. Yesterday, the children took part in 'Quad kids' run by OCRA. They loved this and it was a great way to spend a Thursday morning! Have a look at the photos below. Today was rainbow day and everyone looked so colourful demonstrating how great it is that we are all different. It's been a very busy week here. We've been full swing into rehearsal for the upcoming KS2 performance of Cinderella and Rockerfella! We're learning lots of songs and dances, and getting used to listening for cues and when to go on stage and off stage again. It's looking great.
In English, we went for our own 'walk around London' (see the photos) and made comments at each location. We then used these comments to practise writing speech and punctuating it with inverted commas. We also learnt about the present perfect tense and when to use it. In Maths, we've finished learning about time. Last week's focus was on analogue clocks, but this week we learnt to read digital time in both the 12 and 24 hour format. We had an interesting science lesson learning about the skeleton and bones. In geography, we looked at how the use of natural resources has changed over time and we also did some atlas work. We located Chile and discovered the shape of the country (did you know it's over 4,000 miles long but only around 60 miles wide?) We learnt about the natural resources that Chile has, including the copper mining industry. Next week will be another busy one as we have class photographs on Tuesday, Quad kids on Thursday and rainbow day on Friday. We'll be continuing with plenty of play practise for most of the week, but will also be planning our own version of 'A Walk in London' as well as starting a new unit of Maths learning about 2D shapes and angles. Have a great weekend. Hello,
It's good to be back after half term and what's more, be making the most of the sunshine! This week in Ash Class, we have worked in Maths learning how to tell the time. Why not practise this over the weekend? In English, we started a new text called 'A Walk in London'. The children were able to transform this into some instructions for their own walk in London, pointing out all of the best sights to see. Science involved learning about organs of the human body including their functions. We have started a unit on natural resources in Geography and had some interesting discussions about which natural resources created the objects we use everyday. We have also started practising for the KS2 play 'Cinderella Rockerfella'. The songs are coming along nicely and the children are aware of their roles and what's involved. Next week, we will learn some dances and spend time practising when different children need to be on stage. Next week, we have our Year 4 multiplication checks. I'm so proud of how hard the children have worked for this and I know they will all try their best. Let's have a weekend of lots of practise to make sure they feel as confident as possible! See you next week, Miss Radbourne. |
