Welcome to Autumn Term 2!
What a busy week we have had starting lots of new topics. In English this week we have started a new book called the Last Bear. This booked is all about a girl who explores a Bear Island and has found a polar bear friend. We have been making codebreakers to decipher the bear's thoughts and feelings. Today we had fun performing role play of Bear and April. In maths this week we have started a new unit on fractions. So far this week we have been focusing on simplifying fractions, finding equivalent fractions and ordering fractions. We will continue this unit next week. In geography we have continued with our unit on population by researching why the population is ever changing. We looked at factors affecting the birth rate and what affects the death rate. We also looked at how this has changed over time since the 1800's. In science we have started our unit on sustainability. This week we focused on everyday materials. We looked at ceramics, glass and plastics by looking at their properties and what happens to them when they get thrown away. In PE on Tuesday the lesson was based on gymnastics. It was focused on creating different poses and creating sequences. See some photos below. On Thursday our PE lesson was based on netball. We focused on passing and defending by practicing lots of different activities. We finish the lesson with a game of endgame to practice these skills. This afternoon, we have started our new DT unit on playgrounds. Today we have discussed what playgrounds should contain and have began designing our initial ideas. I hope you have a lovely weekend!
