Happy half term! I can't believe we have already had one half term in year 6! The children have worked excellently this half term and have really stepped up to the role of being in year 6.
I am feeling very proud of our class this week. All of the class all stood up in the church yesterday and all said something related to Harvest. Some children talked about what harvest is and who we should thank, others read their own poems they had written about Autumn. All of the class spoke and sang beautifully in the church and should be very proud of themselves! In English this week, we have been busy finishing writing our own persuasive pitches about our Windrush monuments. They have been busy writing these up neatly for a display after half term! After half term we will be starting a new unit based on a new book. In maths this week, we have finished our unit on the four operations. We have looked at mental methods we could use to solve some calculations in our heads. We finished our unit today by completing the end of unit assessment. After half term we will move onto fractions! On Monday, we began our geography unit on population. This involved looking at the worlds population over time and around the world. We looked at which countries are very densely populated and which countries are not. We discovered one of the most densely populated countries was India. We will continue with this after half term. Today we have celebrated TTRS Rockstar day! See below a class photo of all our Rockstar's! We have been busy on TTRS battling each other, other classes and even other schools. We had a lovely morning where some parents came in for some tricky maths problems to solve with their children. After lunch we designed our own avatar for TTRS and we also spent some time in chestnut class playing lots of maths games with our youngest children. I hope you have a lovely half term. See you on Monday 4th November! :) Happy Friday! Welcome to the penultimate blog of the half term.
We have had another jam packed week of lots of learning! In English this week we have been busy designing our own monument to honour the Windrush generation. WE have also started writing our own persuasive pitches to persuade the council to build our monuments. Next week we will be finishing these pitches. See photos below of some monument designs. In maths this week the children have shown brilliant resilience and perseverance. We have been looking at the long division method which is tricky method to master, however the children have worked very hard to understand the method. In history this week we have finished our unit by creating either a poster, slideshow, comic or extended writing piece all about everything we have learnt about the industrial revolution. In science we have been busy with an experiment to learn the difference between a physical and a chemical change by mixing bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. We observed a colour change, bubbles and a very bad smell- these are all signs of a chemical change. In PE this week we have been playing end ball which is similar to netball except there are no hoops for shooting. Next week we have harvest festival, open book afternoon and TTRS day! Have a lovely weekend :) Happy Friday! Welcome to another weekly blog.
We have had another super busy week of new learning. In English this week we have continued our topic on Windrush child. We have been writing speeches from Leonard to his Mum about his thoughts and feelings of living in Britain. Also we have had lots of grammar focuses this week including modal verbs and using semi colons correctly. In maths this week, we have been refreshing our column multiplication knowledge and using bus stop for short division. Next week we will be tackling more division problems and long division too. In history this week we have finished our unit on the industrial revolution by focusing on the impacts it had particularly in Devon. We looked at our Exeter had changed over the period. Next week will be producing an end of unit poster or PowerPoint to show what we have learnt in the unit. In science this week we looked at separating materials in three different ways: sieving, filtration and evaporation. In PE yesterday with Coach Kai the children played a whole class game of capture the flag. See photos below. On Friday 25th October we will be having a whole school TTRS day to celebrate multiplication and number! Children are invited to dress up as Rockstar's and there will be lots of fun activities during the day including a glam rock station with face paint. I hope you have a lovely weekend :) Happy Friday!
Welcome to another weekly blog from Sycamore. This week we have been busy learning about the Windrush in English through our next book Windrush Child. We have been reading the book which is all about a child on their way to England for a new life from Jamaica. Today we wrote some lovely poems about the child's journey on the Arosa Star. We will continue this book next week learning what life was like when the Empire Windrush arrived in England. In maths we have continued with our unit on the four operations. We have been focusing on factors and multiples and prime numbers. Make sure to ask them what the definition of a prime number is! Next week we will be looking at multiplication and division further. This week in our history lesson, we have been exploring the main inventions of the industrial revolution. These included the Spinning Jenny, Water Frame and the Locomotive. We discussed which we thought was the most important invention and most of us chose the Locomotive and railways as this transformed many lives of the working class. Next week we will be researching the impact on the industrial revolution in Devon. In art this afternoon we have been experimenting with charcoal. This has been very fun but slightly messy! Check out our blog next week for the finished pieces! I hope you have a lovely weekend! :) |
