Happy Friday! Welcome to another weekly blog.
This week in English we have written our own wellness articles about how to be kind to ourselves, each other and the planet. The children have been excellent wellness coaches within our articles. We have also spent time publishing these and some are now on display outside the classroom! Next week we will being starting a new book and new unit. In maths this week we have finished our place value unit and have completed the end of unit assessment. The children did very well in this and now have secure understanding of place value. Today we started our new unit on the four operations by practicing and revising our column addition and subtraction. Our history lesson involved exploring what the working conditions were like during the industrial revolution. We then had to decide if we would rather work in a mine or a factory and why. In science this week we continued with looking at particles with a focus on impure mixtures and examples of these materials. In PE yesterday due to the weather the children played bench ball in the hall which was enjoyed by everyone - see photos below. Today in our PSHE lesson we discussed the importance healthy and balanced friendships by looking at different scenarios of friendship problems. This afternoon in art we have been continuing with our symbolic tiles all about things that represent us! I hope you all have a lovely weekend :) Happy Friday everyone!
What a busy week we have had this week, we have begun to get into our normal timetable routines and were lucky enough to go on a trip too. In English we have finished reading the book 'Here We Are'. On Wednesday we discussed the themes that we think the authors covers in the book. We have started researching for own final piece which will be an article all about looking after ourselves, each other and the planet. On Monday we will start drafting our articles using the research. In maths this week we have continued on the topic of place value looking at ordering and comparing numbers up to 10 million and powers of 10. We will continue and finish this unit next week by practicing our rounding skills. We have started our science unit on physical and chemical changes by looking at the three states of matter. We explored the different states by observing and describing the changes happening when ice cube melts. We also performed what a solid, liquid and gas particles look like and their characteristics. On Thursday we were extremely lucky to be invited to be part of the Whiddon autumn festival with some world class musicians and singers. The children were behaved well and sang beautifully. One of the exciting parts of the day was that we got to meet the composer in residence - Rocky who composed one of the songs we sang. I was very impressed with all the class yesterday! Today we were visited by Mrs Underwood who invited all the children to the college open evening next week. We also enjoyed a lovely art lesson this afternoon drawing our Wayob and symbols that represented us. Have a lovely weekend! Welcome to the year 6 blog!
What a busy week we have had! The children have settled in so well to year 6. There is going to be a lot of hardwork this year but also lots and lots of fun! We have been sitting some Mock Sats papers this week to give a baseline of where the children are and the areas we need to focus on. The children have approached these with an excellent attitude and should be proud of themselves! In English we have started our new unit based on the book Here We Are. We have explored creating our own expanded noun phrases and using them to write our own non narrative poems. In maths we have started the first unit on place value by focusing on numbers to ten million! In history we have started the unit on the Industrial Revolution by looking at what life was like in Victorian society. The past few afternoons we have been busy designing our Christmas cards ready to be sent off. I can't believe we are already thinking about Christmas! Next week we will be getting into proper routine and getting started in all aspects of the curriculum. We also will be going on a trip to Mortonhampstead School for the Whiddon Autumn Festival. The songs are sounding beautiful. Have a great weekend, Miss Collins :) |
