Hello and welcome to the penultimate blog of the spring term!
I can’t believe how quickly this year is flying by. In English this week we have started our new book called the Boy in the Tower. We started by making predictions based on the cover and the bulb. We have since read quite a few chapters and have learnt lots about the main character Ade. There has been lots of buildings collapsing but so far, we don’t quite no why. We will be carrying on with this next week. In maths this week we have been continuing with our shape unit. We have been learning about angles in quadrilaterals and in all different polygons. Today we have been learning about the parts of a circle and even learnt a fun song to remember! On Monday we investigated how fashion has been affected by globalisation. We talked about the concept of ‘fast fashion’ and discussed the negative benefits this can have around the world. On Wednesday afternoon we had some extra maths where we learnt how to find the volume of a shape by multiplying the length, width and height. On Thursday afternoon in science, we learnt the scientific equation to calculate the power an object uses. We will continue with our energy unit next week. We also went to Beech class to help them to complete the active life survey. Today we had our handball PE lesson this morning, we also completed our own active life survey and have helped Chestnut class to complete theirs too. I hope you have a lovely weekend 😊 Welcome to our weekly blog. In English we have been writing our own story based on the story of the Princess’ Blanket. We have been working hard on our handwriting, presentation and including correctly punctuated direct speech. Next week we will be starting our new book. In Maths this week we have been focusing on angles. We have learnt what angles in a right angle, straight line, around a point and in a triangle add up to. We have been using these facts to calculate missing angles. On Monday, in geography we learnt about how globalisation has affected trade across the world. On Wednesday afternoon we spent some time looking at area and perimeter of shapes by using old sats questions to improve our understanding. We also learnt how to find the area of a triangle. On Thursday afternoon we learnt the equation to calculate energy efficiency in science. We spent time understanding what energy efficiency means and how to calculate it. After we completed our science, we spent time in the orchard with nursery and chestnut class. It was lovely to see the oldest children spending time with the youngest members of our school. Today we spent some time outside and using the basket swing which has been fixed! We also began our final pieces in art and will be continuing these next week. Don’t forget there is a bake sale after school in the hall! Thank you 😊 Hello and welcome to our weekly blog. This week the children have been working very hard and have been completing our final mock SATS. Everyone has made great progress and should be very proud of themselves as am I. Due to SATS we have only been able to have some normal lessons. We have planned our own story in the style of the Princess’ Blankets. Today we have began writing our opening paragraph focusing on our presentation and handwriting. We will be continuing to write our stories next week. In maths this week we have been looking at translations and reflections of shapes and today we have completed our end of unit assessment and the beginning of unit for shape. We will have our first lesson on shape on Monday. In PE this week we have been looking at improving our skills in tag rugby and in handball. Next week we will be back to normal and will be catching up with our wider curriculum lessons too. Don’t forget Friday is Red Nose Day, there will be a bake sale in the hall after school and children are welcome to wear non-uniform for a donation of £1. Have a lovely weekend 😊 Welcome to our weekly blog.
This week in English, we have finished reading our story of the Princess' Blankets. We have been looking at the features of direct speech and why we use dialogue in stories. Today we have created our class story based on the structure of the text. Next week we will be planning our own story and we will begin to write them. In maths we have started our unit on position and direction. We have been looking at coordinates in the four quadrants and next week we will be focusing on translating and reflecting points and shapes in the four quadrants. We have started our new geography unit on globalisation. We investigated what globalisation means and looked at companies who are now found all over the world such as McDonalds. We also started our new science unit on energy where we learnt that energy can never be created or destroyed it can only be transferred. We also learnt the names of 6 different types of energy. On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day! We had a book quiz, shared favourite books with each other, discussed books and reading, completed maths challenges with a book theme, written in different genres, read with younger children and joined the Bookery on line for a World Book Day celebration! See some pictures below. Today we have had a great PE lesson playing handball with Mr Wood. We have also spent some time with Chestnut class helping them to use chromebooks for the first time! Next week we will be sitting our mock SATs as good practice for the real ones in May. Please don't forget to sign up for Parents evenings on Monday 24th and Wednesday 26th March. I hope you have a lovely weekend! |
