Hello and welcome to our first blog of Spring 2.
Today feels like spring may be on its way! Just a short blog this week as I haven’t been in much this week. On Monday we started our new book – The Princess’ Blankets- in English. We have started reading the story and have been writing formal letters in the style of different characters to the King. We also finished our history unit on Civil Rights by looking at the Black Lives Matter movement and how it is still big movement around the world today. Next week we will be starting our new geography unit. In maths we have started our unit on Statistics by looking at line graphs, dual bar charts and pie charts. We will finish this next week by looking at the mean. Today we have had our second PE lesson with Mr Wood where we have been looking at handball. We have also continued our art unit by looking at different artwork which convey important messages. Next week our SATS revision club will start on Thursday so please let me know if you would like your child to attend. Don’t forget it is also World Book Day on Thursday too. Have a lovely weekend 😊 Welcome to the final blog of this half term. It is crazy to think that this half term marks the halfway point through the year. The children have already made excellent progress during year 6 and I am very excited to see the progress they make throughout the second half of their final year at primary school!
This week in English we have been writing our own forma letters to a newspaper persuading them to be on the Wolf’s side of the story and ensure the pigs are the criminals. They have produced some excellent writing! In maths we have finished our unit on fractions, decimals and percentages. Today we have started our new unit on statistics by learning to read and interpret line graphs. We will continue with this after half term. On Monday in our History lesson, we learnt all about Martin Luther King. We watched part of his famous speech – I have a dream and looked at why this is one of the most famous speeches of all time. In science this week we have been looking at thermal insulators and thermal conductors. We explored different materials and sorted them into either an insulator or a conductor. We will finish our unit on heat after half term. This afternoon we have been lucky enough to watch the school talent show. Well done to everyone who took part and auditioned too. You should all be very proud of yourselves. I hope you all have a lovely half term break. I look forward to seeing you back on Monday 24th February. Hello welcome to this week’s blog.
This week in English, we have been continuing to look at the advert based on the three little pig’s story. We have been writing diary entries in character, and we have started to look at the features of a formal letter as next week we will be writing a formal letter about our opinion on the three pig’s fate. In maths we have continued out work on percentages, fractions and decimals. Our focus has been on ordering and finding equivalents. Today we have looked at how to find the percentage of an amount. Next week we will be finishing this unit and then starting our unit on statistics. On Monday afternoon we were visited by Reading University as part of the languages project we have been involved with over the past few years. We were being language detectives and practiced our French knowledge. In our science lesson we looked at how is heat is conducted. We took part in an experiment where we looked at how heat is transferred from the candle through to the handle of the knife. We have started using Lexia Core 5 reading this week. It is an online programme which is individual to each child’s ability and works on improving reading comprehension skills. This afternoon, we have spent some time with the younger children reading and helping with DT projects. Next week we will have the talent show on Friday afternoon. Would be great to see some of you there in the audience. I hope you have a lovely weekend 😊 |
