Week beginning 5th December 2022

This week the children have enjoyed creating paper chain snowmen, using their cutting and sticking skills, decorating paper wreaths, exploring a desert nativity scene with sand, and starting to make some Christmas cards.

Our nativity practices have been going well - the children have learnt their songs and dances beautifully. There has been lots of singing during continuous provision and the nativity songs are proving to be very popular.

After writing to some elves last week, Oak Class received a special letter in the post. On Friday, we enjoyed an exciting visit from a mischievous elf called Elvis. The children enjoyed making predictions about what our cheeky elf will get up to next. We had an exciting visit from Father Christmas this week which has been the talk of the classroom!

In PE, our relay races had a Christmas theme. The children had to ‘dress an elf’, taking turns to place an object onto their friend’s body. There was also a parachute activity that required teamwork and the ability to follow instruction.

We finished our week with some ice investigation. After watching The Snowman and learning that he melts in the sun, the children went off to explore and find ice in our outdoor area. They then wondered how they could remove leaves that had frozen in the ice. We had many ideas to test from warm water, leaving it in the sun to crashing and stamping with tools and feet!
