We have been feeling very festive this week as we enjoyed learning about and celebrating the start of advent. The children have enjoyed telling their own stories about advent calendars and cheeky elves that they’ve experienced at home.
In RE we watched the story of the Nativity told using sand drawings. The children then practised retelling this to each other in a sand and glitter tray. Our maths focus this week has progressed from consolidating one more and less to the exploration of shape. The children have enjoyed shape hunting in the indoor and outdoor environment. We have used shapes for building picture collages as we explored the number of sides and corners each shape had. This week we have been busy baking gingerbread to sell at the Christmas market. We weighed ingredients and followed a recipe when cooking. The next day, the children were very creative as the decorated their gingerbread men using the skill of piping icing. In phonics, the children have been applying their RWI learning to festive activities. We especially enjoyed writing letters to the Christmas elves in the hope that they visit our classroom. We look forward to finding out if our letters work. Have a great weekend, Mrs MacDonald and Mrs Nuthall. Comments are closed.
