Oak Class have had a great week back after their half term break. The children earned their final class reward nugget on Monday morning and were very excited to do some cooking, which timed well with Shrove Tuesday. The children followed the recipe, all had a go at adding ingredients and mixing and all flipped their pancake on to their plate before decorating. In PE, we have been exploring jumping and landing safely within a space theme, learning the correct way to land jumps and different ways of moving and landing. The children enjoyed the space walking in their imaginary space suits. In maths this week we have been learning about time. We set a number of time challenges throughout the week from how many keys threaded to how many laps the children were able to complete in 1 minute. We have discussed the times of day and the children enjoyed painting pictures of day and night activities. We have ordered the days of the week through stories and song. We particularly enjoyed the stories of Jasper’s Beanstalk, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Mr Wolf’s Week. Our Caterpillar story inspired the children to write captions from the book. After ordering the days of the week cards, they chose their favourite day from the book to write about. We also used fruits from the story to create repeating patterns by printing. We had an exciting arrival of frog spawn which sparked interest and conversation about lifecycles and habitats. We look forward to exploring this further as we learn about Spring and growing. After cooking their pancakes on Tuesday for their nugget treat, the role-play area has turned into a pancake kitchen. The children have pretended to measure and pour ingredients, follow recipes and have created menus for their friends. Next week we look forward to exploring some traditional tales. You can support your child at home by reading and familiarising with these classic stories. Some examples: Goldilocks and The Three Bears, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Three Little Pigs. Comments are closed.
