Week beginning 19th September 2022

At the beginning of the week, we explored the number 1 in Maths and counting objects using our finger to point to each object. The children enjoyed Eric Carle's 123 to the Zoo book, carefully counting those tricky snakes and seals! 
 
It has been lovely to share stories, discuss front covers and make predictions with the children 1:1. Perhaps you could have a go at home discussing the title of the book and predicting what might happen. Who do you think the main character will be? What can you tell from the pictures on the cover? Maybe there is a blurb on the back that might help you.
 
The children have been talking about their favourite things, likes and dislikes. We used scissors to cut out and stick paper independently. The children had great scissor control and we were really impressed!
 
This week we have used nature to influence our arts and crafts. The children worked together on a nature scavenger hunt, and we talked about Autumn and the colours we found. They then used their natural resources to build woodland models of themselves.
 
In phonics we have been learning the sounds I, N, P and G. The children have been sorting objects by their initial sounds. We enjoyed forming the letters in shaving foam. It would be really beneficial if you could support your child with these sounds at home over the weekend using the flashcards in your child’s bookbag.
