Week beginning 17th October

After our exciting bicycle themed PE session practising different body movements and balancing skills, we went to visit the Year 4's in Ash Class. They were curators of their own museum and the children enjoyed looking at the artefacts and visiting a new part of the school!
 
We have been continuing our learning about repeating patterns, with a special snack time today arranging various fruits into repeating patterns. We have discussed the months of the year and what date and month our birthday is in - the children have helped to make a display in our classroom. Some children have been identifying different leaves in the outdoor environment independently which is great to see.
 
In Phonics, last week we introduced the 'sh' digraph in 'shed', and today week we have introduced 'th' as in 'thumb'. It would be great if you could practise these at home, as it is tricky to get the difference between them initially. The term 'digraph' refers to two letters making one sound.
 
We took our letter formation outdoors this week and used sticks and mud to write letters and words. This was very messy, great fun and the perfect opportunity to consolidate the letter sounds that we have learnt so far. We have also used paints and water for out writing opportunities and the Read Write Inc rhymes have helped us when forming letters.

As Diwali falls in half term, we have enjoyed learning about this celebration early. The children heard story of Rama and Sita as well as learning about customs such as rangoli patterns, diva lamps and decorations. We decorated hands in the style of henna and used colourful sand to create our own rangoli pictures. The children also re-enacted the story of Rama and Sita with puppets for each other.

A gentle reminder... please try to read with your children at home for 10 minutes each day – this will be their reading book and their letter flashcards. This really does have such an impact as they learn to recognise, segment and blend sounds to read words.

Please note, that as per Miss Penny's school news, we will be joining the carol singing, Christingle and are also part of the KS1 nativity performance.
