Week beginning 14th November 2022

The beginning of this week has been busy. We have started been celebrating World Kindness Day in Oak Class, with the children taking their time to make the most beautiful cards for their chosen special people. We have discussed what it means to be a kind friend and how we can show kindness to others in little ways every day.

On Tuesday, the children took part in a special school vote, marking their own ballot paper and voting in the hall for their preferred wildlife day to celebrate as a school. World Penguin Day and World Ocean Day were the most popular in our class, but we will wait to see the results from the whole school.
 
In Phonics, the children in each group have been working really hard to practise blending and segmenting their sounds. Some groups use magnetic tiles to spell words, while others are beginning to piece words together to form short simple sentences.
 
Maths learning has been around spatial awareness and shape comparison. The children have enjoyed finding shapes within the indoor and outdoor environment as well as building collage pictures with 2D shapes. We have been practising our positional language ‘under, on, in, behind, in front, beside’ through games, obstacle courses and small world play.
 
We enjoyed wearing odd socks for Anti-Bullying Week and have been decorating socks, talking with friends and celebrating our differences. This afternoon, the Year 4’s joined us for a ‘walk, pair, share’ afternoon. Oak Class shared writing they were proud of, walked with a Year 4 partner for some talk time and finally enjoyed reading a book together.
