Happy Friday and Happy half-term!
This week, we have been exploring filtration in Science, being gymnastic and writing in role as a slave, or slave trader from the Benin Kingdom.. This week, we have completed our unit on addition and subtraction in Maths, focusing on our knowledge and next steps. In English, we have continued to study our new text Firebird, which is based on a traditional Russian tale. (See link on Dojo for the story, if you want to share it at home.) This week, we have completed the writing of our own versions. In Science we worked on separating river water into its component parts using filtration. History saw us thinking about the slavery trade in the Benin Kingdom - and what it would have been like to be involved. In P.E. we have worked on our travelling, jumping and landing skills in gymnastics and begun to focus our tag rugby skills in our outdoor session. Next week is anti-bullying week, so, in PSHE this afternoon with Miss Penny the class have been thinking about what bullying actually is and the different forms that it can take. The theme for this year is Choose Respect - the official video can be viewed on this link: https://youtu.be/sZ_CkltlgS4?si=6nP9q2mA6aQH6vOn To celebrate this, on Tuesday, we will all be wearing Odd Socks. There is also the opportunity to come to school in your pyjamas on Friday for Children in Need (all donations will go to Children in Need, so please give if you can). Bikeability is beginning for the year 5 children on Monday. The children taking part will need tracksuit trousers or leggings, a waterproof coat, a helmet and their bike on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Next week, we will start a new English unit, the text will be revealed on Tuesday. We will also start a new Maths unit (Multiplication and Division), new geography unit (Informal Settlements) and investigate Geology and the Rock Cycle in Science. P.E. will be on Thursday and Friday for this half term until Christmas, so please send the children in with their kits on these days. Finally, the children will come home with their homework books today. In these there are spellings for this week, Maths questions based on what we have been doing in class and a topic homework with a choice of activities. Please could the book come back in on Thursday next week for marking and so that the children can add next week's home learning. So far this term, the response to home learning has been very positive and it really does help to reinforce the learning that the children undertake during the school day. New topic home learning will be out next Friday. Have a great weekend everybody, see you on Monday. Jason Foreman Comments are closed.
