Happy Friday!
A week of fairy tales, Multiples and Tag rugby! This week, we have been working on our English text The Sleeper and the Spindle. We have explored homophones and the themes that run through the beginning of the story. We have also written in role as the Queen to be. Maths has seen us working on multiples of numbers. We have explored multiples of 3 and 6 and what common multiples are. we have used the language: Product Multiples, Quotient, Array, Divisor and have made generalisations about what we have noticed in the tables that we have explored. In Science we explored how sedimentary rocks are formed and how a fossil is created. P.E has seen us developing our Tag Rugby skills, we have worked on passing and intercepting this week. Next week, sees us continuing to read and write, using our text The Sleeper and the Spindle as inspiration. We continue to explore Multiplication and Division in Maths and will explore Metamorphic Rocks in Science. We'll also continue work on Informal settlements in Geography and work on our Rugby skills, moving more into game situations next week. P.E. will be on Thursday and Friday for this half term until Christmas, so please send the children in with their kits on these days. Finally, the children will come home with their homework books on Monday (due to the snow day). In these there are spellings for this week, Maths questions based on what we have been doing in class and a topic homework with a choice of activities. Please could the book come back in on Thursday next week for marking and so that the children can add next week's home learning. So far this term, the response to home learning has been very positive and it really does help to reinforce the learning that the children undertake during the school day. New topic home learning is in there, as well as on Class Dojo. Have a great weekend everybody, see you on Monday. Jason Foreman Happy Friday!
This week, we have been persuasive poster writers, problem solvers and on Thursday, we had a few snow angels! This week, we have focused on assessments in English and Maths to really think about where we are in our learning now, what we need to do next and what progress we've made so far this year. In Science we worked on how igneous rocks are formed and I was very impressed by how many budding geologists we have in the class. Geography saw us thinking about what an informal settlement is and where in the world the largest informal settlements can be found. Wednesday saw the NSPCC coming in and running a workshop on Speak Out, Stay Safe, which gave our children a greater knowledge of what do when they feel uncomfortable and who to speak to for support. We then finished the week with 2 snow days. Next week, we will continue our new English unit, based on the text The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman. We will also continue our new Maths unit (Multiplication and Division), new geography unit (Informal Settlements) and investigate Geology and the Rock Cycle in Science. P.E. will be on Thursday and Friday for this half term until Christmas, so please send the children in with their kits on these days. Finally, the children will come home with their homework books on Monday (due to the snow day). In Science we worked on separating river water into its component parts using filtration. History saw us thinking about the slavery trade in the Benin Kingdom - and what it would have been like to be involved. In P.E. we have worked on our travelling, jumping and landing skills in gymnastics and we focused our tag rugby skills in our outdoor session. This week as part anti-bullying week. in PSHE, the class have been thinking about Body Image and how we are all unique. WE have been promoting the ideal that we should be confident in who we are and what we look like. On Tuesday, we all wore Odd Socks for Anti Bullying Week.
